My friends and I have been regular visitors to the ground floor bar at South Place Hotel for a long while, and we have always enjoyed our time there. However, recently one of the waiters there was so rude and condescending to us that it has completely put us off coming back.
Basically, a drunk man who was sitting near us was secretly videoing us on his phone. We are not celebrities or anything, so I'm not sure why he was doing that. My friend was really not happy about this, as he had no right to film us without our permission. But of course, as he was drunk, it was quite difficult to reason with him. We didn't want to cause a scene so we asked one of the waiters to help us. The waiter was SO condescending and rude, saying to us "Well what do you want me to do? Are you even sure he was videoing you?". Well, um yes, we saw ourselves on the videos on his phone when we asked him to delete it. When we eventually managed to convince the guy to delete the videos, the waiter rolled his eyes at us and said "There, it's done" and walked off.
How rude. It has put us off coming back as we were made to feel like we were being a nuisance when our comfort and privacy was not respected!
The bar itself is great and so are the food and drinks, it's just that particular waiter who...
Read moreNot a great experience starting with the fact that the person on the desk didn't know where there front door to the hotel was to allow us access with a pram (!), the revolving doors were not big enough to enter directly to the restaurant. After that we sat down and ordered, the side of Brussels sprouts came twice, very wet and lots of water at bottom of dish. Not what we were expecting as they were meant to come with lardons which were missing. Pointed this out and a replacement bowl of shhy sprouts with tiny afterthought lardons sprinkled across the boiled vegetables (when you have larfoms you expect sprouts to be roasted ?). Unfortunately my partner had 'poured' the sprouts and sprouty water across his main course diluting the already 'wet' meal. I asked for chips instead of mashed potato with the Chicken Supreme that we both had - it came with French fries thrown unappetisingly across the plate and the sauce for the chicken supreme in a separate bowl - the wrong way round I think but I'm not the chef!
Altogether a very disappointing meal given the prices on the a la carte menu. Would not recommend, there are better places to eat in a more comfortable...
Read moreCame here for their bottomless brunch. The positives are that the staff were very friendly, and two hours is a good amount of time. The purees given to add to the prosecco were a nice touch. There were 8 of us on a table however and they only gave us 1 bottle at a time for the entire table which I didnt really understand, as there wasn't enough in a single bottle for us all to get a drink from it, two bottles would have made more sense. The biggest let down for me was the food. It sounded really good on the menu, but I got the arancini balls and the crab eggs benedict and both were so so bland. There was almost no flavour to the dish and the eggs dish was stone cold by the time it got to me. The biggest disappointments had to be the burgers though. Most of my friends ordered them and they were absolutely shocking, they were what you would expect for £3 from a kebab shop. It's a shame as it's a beautiful venue and we expected the quality to match the area. I'm disappointed that we actually paid for the food in the end as it was absolutely...
