Popped in here after our nearby gig venue had a food supply problem. Food was very tasty & quick to arrive (6.30pm Thursday) & a good size portion for me, although my 2 male companions wished they'd ordered more. I had, I think it was called, Dirty Tater Tots, which had shredded beef & a sauce + a bit of Parmesan atop some mini fried potatoes with some sauce on the side - very yummy, + a bowl of bone broth (can't remember what it was called on the menu) - extremely delicious! My companions had Pastrami Burgers (but they weren't called that). I also had a pink watermelon soda (no glass or straw offered, but that didn't bother me unduly) which was lovely but a bit sweet for my taste (too much sugar in it - however virtuously natural, it's still sugar). I didn't ask for any diet drinks but not sure there were any. Very small place but clientele is fast in & out (maybe because the portions are small) so we had a choice of seats - thankfully, because our first attempt was by the door that wouldn't shut despite efforts, & there was an uncomfortable draught + annoying ciggie smoke, from delivery drivers lurking outside, coming straight in. It was useful to find friendly seated customers who explained what they were having as the only physical menu in place, via a lighted plaque on the wall merely, merely gives the vague but intriguing names of the dishes in large letters - apparently to save on paper. I wonder about the energy usage of the lighted wall though, when 1 picture based menu detailing the components could have fitted in the space - but not look quite as swish(!). Also, all dishes arrive in cardboard - this can't be recycled because of food particles. I feel bad that I had a bit of trouble understanding the nice person at the ordering point/till, but another kind staff member came to help. Our smartphones wouldn't connect to the QR code provided on the tables, so he provided his phone so we could read the dishes. He was very astute & heard me saying I needed to avoid milk & asked if I was lactose intolerant (correct re high levels) & helpfully went to find out if a sauce had milk in it (it didn't). He also most helpfully remembered that the burger buns contain milk, so that made it easier to choose only from the potato based items. My total price was OK at £18, but I'm not sure the amount of food, particularly the broth, justified it. All in all, it was a good experience, but if they could obtain a bigger premises close by it would work extremely well re. better menu info (can't rely on phone signal), seating, + ambience, as the taste alone of the food elevates this over other fast food joints. A few vegetables to accompany wouldn't go amiss either, so they need more space...
Read moreThis place had been on my radar for a long time, and the social media hype has been crazy. Finally, I had the opportunity to visit their Hackney location and decided to try as much as I could.
Here’s what I ordered:
Motz Burger A solid burger that could have benefited from a bit more seasoning. Thankfully, the onions and smac sauce added enough flavour to make it enjoyable.
Green Chilli Burger Like the Motz Burger, this one also lacked seasoning. However, the generous portion of green chillis was a perfect hit. The burgers were on the smaller side, but the 50% discount made them a good deal. I wouldn’t pay full price given their size.
Shticky Ribs The ribs were tasty, with a honey BBQ sauce that was sweet, tangy, and perfectly glazed. The only downside was that there wasn't much meat on them.
Animal Fries The fries were decent, and the combination of caramelised onions and smac sauce was excellent. However, I was confused by the slice of cheese on the fries when they sell queso cheese.
Loaded Smashed Potatoes An outstanding combination of flavours with crispy potatoes. I would prefer if they came in a wider container to ensure the toppings are spread more evenly. After finishing the top layers, you’re left with plain chips.
They offer unique drink options and an extensive menu. However, I found the prices a bit high for what you receive. On the bright side, the staff were friendly and quick to clear the tables after customers left.
I’d definitely return to try other items on the menu, possibly at a...
Read moreAfter seeing the online hype, and the additional branches opening, thought I’d check it out for myself.
Alhamdulillah the food was overall nice however, portions were way too small and I think the brisket from other places like Pitmaster for example is better. There was barely any rib meat on the ribs loaded fries we got, which did taste great, it’s prob the best tasting item they have on their menu. But the ribs ordered on their own are not as tender as they should be if they’ve been slow cooked for so long. B&S do cut their brisket very finely which is something I like and the gimmick of dipping a burger or food into their gravy broth is tasty and resolves any dry food. The dessert was decent but again on the small side. The shakes were unavailable, something they need to sort out, especially in the summer weather. The branch was relatively quiet with enough seating, they maybe need one more member of staff to stay on top of promptly cleaning tables after customers leave because a few seats/tables weren’t cleaned for a while as limited staff served customers/managed collection drivers. I’d eat here again if I was in the area but wouldn’t go out of my way to visit again with so much other...
