There are a lot of places in Hackney these days that sell a kebab for 16 quid and in the majority of cases I would say that it's the same 3 quid kebab from the same shop 5 years ago.
This place is better, the food is good, juices can be good, it's relaxed and they have a good coffee, decent selection of food of a mixed middle med southern European melange of club sandwich to falafel (which is actually nice) or a vegetarian iskender which I'm told s not an iskender but it's just as nice with halloumi.
The reason it's not 5 star is that it's expensive for Clapton, maybe not for Hoxton but for Clapton it's an expensive lunch, burger comes wilthout chips, those charged seperate is a bit mean and cutthroat which makes the entire service seem a bit mean but student waiters helps it along so chef doesn't have to be a sweetheart.
Its still a favourite locally for me.....
Then again I used to live here in the 90s, that's a long time ago and lots has changed but not really that much if you know what...
Read moreI came to this restaurant with my friend as it advertised on it's window that it was participating in the eat out to help out government scheme. The scheme states that all food is 50% off Monday to Wednesday, and you can get up to £10 off your meal. When I went to pay, the waitress refused to give me the discount, saying that you needed to spend at least £10 to receive the discount, yet this is not what is stated on the government website, and this has not been the case in other restaurants I have gone to which are also participating in this scheme. If this was the case, she would have suggested that my friend and I split the bill and given us the discount as both our meals came to over £10. Do not claim to be involved in this scheme if you are not going to follow through with it. I paid the £9.50 in the end as I did not want to argue, especially because the waitress had been very hostile and unfriendly when serving us. I will not be recommending this place to anyone, nor will I be...
Read moreThe brunch menu was really promising- both extensive and inventive. However, when the food arrived, it was barely edible. The Hollandaise sauce tasted like it'd been made with margarine- with poor consistency, colour- and taste. It tasted more like a desert sauce than a savoury one. And the sausages that were served with the American Stack tasted distinctly cheap and nasty. The bacon was very dry and salty, and the pancakes over thick. I'm not usually a moaner, but neither me nor my partner could eat this. When we told the extremely nice waitress- her response was contrite and very decent. However, when she told the chef, he gave us a paltry 10%discount, which was like adding insult to injury. Most of the breakfast was untouched- and even then, he refused to acquiesce. So the customer service was zero from the cowardly chef/owner- who didn't even talk to us. They're lucky to have such a great waitress- who he got to do 'his dirty work' for him with...
