We had a great visit to the Dalloway Terrace. I had completed a lot of research into hotels for afternoon tea as a birthday gift for my mum who is Gluten free. We love afternoon tea but so often it’s hard finding good tasty food for her. There are a lot of negative reviews online of hotel experiences for afternoon tea, but after reading a lot of positive reviews for this one and seeing how great the terrace looked, I booked the Dalloway Terrace. The service was fantastic from the start. I was coming with my mum and brother, but was concerned about the weather on the day and whether the terrace would be too cold, so I called the front desk and spoke to a lady called Virag, who said she would show us the terrace when we came and if we felt it was too cold, she would make space in the Coral Room for us, which is inside the hotel and is another great place for taking afternoon tea. This put us at ease. The hotel is stunning and Virag met us as we arrived, we viewed both options and settled on the terrace, which was nice and warm, a great setup and Virag had kindly moved us to being under a heater, which was thoughtful, very warm in there anyway on a colder day. Maddie then looked after us, who was absolutely lovely, kind and attentive, one of the best staff you’ll meet. We were well looked after, provided with a free refill of sandwiches (or we could have cakes if we had wanted) tea was topped up and nothing was too much trouble. It’s a great, relaxing environment to take afteenoon tea and we throughly enjoyed it! Amazing. (The only slight thing, if I was to point one minor thing to change, was that one or two of cakes had herbs in, which was an interesting flavour mixture, but not something we loved.) That didn’t matter too much though, the scones were warm with the usual cream and jam and Maddie even brought a happy birthday plate with some macarons for my mums birthday. All the staff are attentive and you really feel like you are somewhere that wants to make it memorable and special. Thanks Maddie,...
Read moreDalloway Terrace is a fancy restaurant specialising in season British cuisine located within minutes walking distance from Tottenham Court Road tube station and the British Museum.
Entering through the pink and pretty Coral Room Bar where patrons can sip a libation or two, Dalloway Terrace is located within the swish The Bloomsbury hotel with everything oozing sophistication and elegance as you'd come to expect from a central London Hotel
Famous for its decor, I am pleased to say that Dalloway Terrace is as beautiful as it looks on Social Media. Their walls of terrace is beautifully adorned with flowers of all seasons, creating a kaleidoscope of colours and a terrace that is just screaming "Instagram Me!". Believe me, you'll want to. It sets a very romantic mood.
Once you've plonked yourself down, perused the menu, and ordered, it's time to tuck in. As expected, the quality of the food was excellent. The chicken Milanese with rockets was aromatic and the grilled Scottish salmon was cooked perfectly with the skin lovely and crunchy. Service was top-notch.
However, not everything is rosy. The wait between ordering and the food arriving was rather long (30 minutes wait to be specific), and excellent as the food was, it definitely doesn't represent value for money. I certainly didn't go over board with my orders. You don't come here if you're on a budget. Sadly, the flowers adornment doesn't extend to the restaurant's patio (which is an extenal extension of the terrace).
To surmise, Dalloway Terrace is excellent for special occasions be it birthdays, anniversaries, Mother's Day, and definitely hot dates. Food is great and so is the service. Just be prepared for a hefty...
Read moreSuch a meh experience for the price point. There are so many better restaurants in the area.
Let's start with the positives:
Nice decor, al fresco setting A couple of our table enjoyed their meals.
That's about it.
Now, the things that didn't go so well.
The service, whilst friendly and professional, wasn't up to scratch for this type of venue.
We ordered a bottle of white wine and a vodka, fresh lime and soda. Wine came quickly, but we had to wait TWENTY minutes for the vodka. We had to ask three times where it was. They kept telling us it was coming. It's a vodka, nothing difficult!
We had to ask what GF options there were as they aren't listed on the menu (somewhere of this supposed standard not listing what's GF in 2024 is pretty poot). Our waiter wasn't sure, so had to find out. Fair enough. Then came back and mentioned a few things that one of our guests could have, including the salad. However the salad was served with a non GF dressing on the side. No alternative dressing of any kind was offered to our GF guest.
Plates were also cleared whilst some of us were still eating.
A Very dry piece of Chicken Milanese, served with the tiniest of rocket garnishes - £28. A nice tasting Black Miso Cod, but it was the size of a pea - £31.
I am far from a constant negative reviewer, but this place really wasn't good. I would've thought that the staff would have taken into consideration that one of our guests had to wait so long for their drink, that they would remove it from the menu. They didn't.
I couldn't be bothered to argue by the end of the meal.
For the price paid, you can certainly do better.
Shan't...
