Heavens gate

Outside the Now Building, found right by the Elizabeth line entrance of Tottenham Court Road station, you’ll find a 360-degree immersive wonderland, with 23,000 square feet of floor-to-ceiling digital art. After a busy day, removing yourself from the hustle and bustle of central London working life to warp time with this striking use of colours is surely just the new year’s activity we’ve been looking for.

16k screens take over four storeys of the building to give a powerful punch of Hollywood dream factory settings. Viewers are treated to content that satirizes pop culture and pulls the visitor into a “hyper-saturation of imagery almost impossible to sustain”.

Speaking on the installation, Marco Brambilla said: “I was initially approached to show this work in the space which led to my curating the Arts program. I was able to invite artists whose work I admire to show new works in this exciting recently launched space.

“I’m thrilled to be presenting Heaven’s Gate in a context which will embrace the spectacle intrinsic to the concept of the work and now also in its presentation.”

Previous shows from Outernet Art have included Simon Denny’s Dotcom Séance, and Acute Art’s The Temple, which pulled visitors into the world of Swedish artist Hilma af Klint.

View Heaven’s Gate at The Now Building, Centre Point, WC2H 8LH (nearest station is Tottenham Court Road, Elizabeth line entrance) from January 22 – February 26.

Tottenham Court Road is also a gateway to the West End, with its vibrant theater scene and world-class entertainment, making it an ideal pre- or post-show stop. Food enthusiasts will find an impressive array of dining options, from international cuisines to cozy cafés, catering to every taste and budget. Recent redevelopment projects have revitalized the area, blending sleek modern buildings with its historic streetscape, creating new public spaces and enhancing its accessibility. Tottenham Court Road used to be the uncomfortable cramped interchange between the two most cramped and hot underground lines, the west end branch of the Northern line and the Central line. Now it has turned into an awesome cutting edge station that stretches under much of the eastern end of Oxford Street. Tottenham Court Road is excellently placed for theatre land, a short walk from Cambridge circus for Harry Potter and the cursed child, Stranger Things the musical, King Lear and The Witches. It is only a 10-15 minute stroll from here to Covent Garden, Leicester Square, China town and right on the edge of Soho (hence Magic Mike at the theatre is also close)
