How is it I have yet to leave a five-star review for quite possibly my favourite Malay restaurant on earth (yes this sometimes even trumps Malay food in Malaysia of which I have sampled a great deal). Going to Dapur is like a trip home minus the expensive flight and jet lag.
Every gulai, rendang and lauk served here is a labour of love - all hand written in Malay and with stunning food that the average Malaysian rarely encounters unless they’re at a Hari Raya open house or a wedding.
Dishes such as ayam mahsuri, nasi goreng kampung, dalca, sayur lodeh and a whole host of Johorean specialities are hard to find anywhere else and I have been to most of the Malaysian restaurants in London - there is more to Malaysian cuisine than satay and roti and Dapur will open your taste buds and palate to this exciting journey.
Nasi lemak here comes with all the condiments and you can choose any of the aforementioned dishes above - they rotate on a daily basis and even after years of being a Dapur regular I never cease to find something new on the menu I’ve never tried.
The team is friendly, warm and welcoming and I cannot emphasise how much it feels like home to me.
Thank you Dapur - you’re the reason Malaysian food has an excellent...
Read moreIf you've been following me, I'm very picky with my food. My food experience in London wasn't going too great. Jess suggested this restaurant called Dapur at 13 Lambs Conduit Passage. We Google searched this restaurant and it told us they open at 10am. We took a bus and reached there at 10.30am and it was still shut. It seems Google wasn't updated . They only open from 11.30am. Although they were shut, they saw us standing outside, and invited us in with a warm cup of tea tarik. At some restaurants especially here in the UK, they rare go over and beyond. Everything is cooked fresh and placed on hot serving dishes. Once presented on a hot display unit, you can choose the type of rice, be it plain white rice or nasi lemak. From there you can choose between one or three main dishes that would compliment with your rice. I loved they hospitality given by them. We were offered extra dishes along with what we have. Both jess and I had nasi lemak with beef rendang and ayam masak merah. I can tell you the dishes are spot on. Don't let the size of this little gem fool you. Their hospitality is full of heart and I do feel like home when I was there. Would I recommend this place, if I had three hands, I would give it a three...
Read moreAmazing place, reminds me of a food stall within Bang Bang in colindale. You have to go to the till to order and they give you a buzzer to let you know when the food is ready for collection.
The food is really nice however their speed at which they process your orders can take a while. The longest we waited was 1 hour just to order.
It is worth the wait, especially if you eat in. Ironically, a majority of the seating is outside.
The outside eating area comprises of marquees, tables and chairs. Each table sits about 4 people. Please note that space is limited so find a place to sit before you order in. The inside seating is small with limited seats.
After eating please remember to bring the plates back in.
The current price ranges from £12 - £16 for a plate of food.
The drinks are nice too but not all of them were labelled with the ingredients so make sure you let them know if you have allergies before you order.
I don't remember seeing a toilet too, had this establishment been more like a restaurant with air con I would have happily given it 5 stars.
I would say try everything on the menu but it can be pricey. Hope you enjoyed it as...
