Had a fantastic lunch for four at Din Tai Fung Selfridges after a stroll around the store to build our appetite. Our table was ready about 10 minutes after our arrival, and we were lucky to be seated by the window with a brilliant view over London, which added to the whole experience.
The menu had a wonderful variety, making it easy for all of us, including our teenage son, to pick plenty of interesting dishes. We ordered around 16 plates in total, spanning dumplings, buns, noodles, greens, salads, fried favorites, and some signature options. Standouts included the perfectly steamed dumplings, the crispy fried chicken, pork and chicken buns, spicy noodles, Asian salad and delicious cold cucumber salad. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted great — flavours were vibrant, and portions ok for sharing.
Service was friendly and professional, with attentive staff checking in regularly. The only slight hitch was the chilli oil, which took two reminders to arrive and only showed up near the end of our meal. It was a minor thing but worth noting. The restaurant was bustling and had a lively but comfortable atmosphere, ideal for groups or families. It was nearly full the entire time, so I highly recommend pre-booking — on a Sunday around 2:30pm, walk-ins faced waits of over half an hour. Pricing matched the quality and London location, and the bill felt fair considering how much we ordered and how full and happy we left. Overall, the entire experience felt special — from the energy of Selfridges to the fabulous views and stellar food.
Would absolutely return, especially for the variety and quality of the dim sum and small plates. A great choice for a celebratory family meal that feels both laid-back...

Won't return: abusive seating hostess.
Foods and drinks are fine as usual, but the hostess at the front is horrible.
We visited Selfridge to pay our respects to the founder, Harry Selfridge (1859-1947), an American who started this department store in London in 1909.
As we're moving through the modern store, we come to face the DTF on the fourth floor. Since there isn't a line, we decided to go, although not really hungry.
There are two signs: one for reservations and one for no reservations. Obviously, we're in the second group. After waiting for a little while, a line formed behind us; wanting to be seated quickly, I asked two ladies behind us if they'd like to share a table to expand our options. They've no problem.
However, the seating hostess said there isn't a splitting of the bill, which killed my little inventiveness. After a short wait, she offered us the table by the entrance, and I said no. She then led us to the waiting area inside the restaurant, between the bar and the windows, and said, "ok… but I can't promise you how soon I can seat you." "It's ok," I said. After another short wait, I saw her seating the two ladies behind us. So I went to her to question: did I lose the turn due to my refusal, or what? She then seated us immediately at an odd table, which had been vacant since our arrival.
Two women next to us by the window split their bill, which gave me an idea to ask our bill to be divided by food and drinks. The server graciously assured us that it's totally fine.
So, the seating sweetheart, why did you lie? You deserve no star rating.
Throughout our waiting/dining time, till we leave, there are...
Read moreWas very disappointed in this place. I’ve been to the one in Taipei and another in Los Angeles so my expectations were very high. Right off the bat I knew the service might be sub par. There was a total of 5 of us and only 3 of us arrived early. We were told we can go wait by the bar until our table was ready. The young gentleman took us there and the bartender didn’t really acknowledge us sitting down. We were the only ones at the bar. We were deciding on what drinks to get before the rest of our party arrived. Not once did the bartender stop from what he was doing to come ask us if we were ready to order drinks. Then we were told that our table was ready. We grabbed our things and got up until another staff member told us that it’s not actually ready and we sat back down. There was no point in ordering drinks since I felt it was soon before the table was actually ready. Mind you, the bartender didnt even talk to us the entire time. Ok so we sat down and ordered our food. We ordered our drinks. After the waitress walked by one person order water for all of us but the waitress thought it was only for that one person, brought our the one cup of water and left. We were confused. So we waited til she came back so we can clarify we all wanted water too. Now for the main course, the food was ok. Very small portions. Definitely not to the standards we are used to from Din Tai Fung. By the end of the meal we went to another restaurant because we were still hungry. Definitely didn’t want to stay and order more here. I hope they can get it together. Maybe it was a bad night or maybe it’s...
