Was supposed to attend here on 18/03/23 but it fell through so ended up rescheduling for the following Sat 25/03/23. I've heard about this place and seen pictures online, it looks amazing, even the menu looks incredible so I wanted to try even if it was for a one off experience!
For a drink, I chose the Miss Candy Mocktail. When it arrived I was in awe; like wow! The blue candyfloss that accompanied the drink was delectable. It tasted like bubble-gum. The drink itself was refreshing and not too sweet. It tasted like quality.
I was torn between trying the Popcorn Shrimp or the Chicken Dumplings. In the end I chose the Shrimp and it didn't disappoint at all. The shrimp was cooked to perfection. The sauce it came with was ok but the pickled mooli was incredible, it had such a nice tang to it. I don't know what they used but it was very flavourful.
Mains - I chose the Roasted Half Chicken - Upon arrival I thought it didn't look like much but it was quite filling. The chicken was cooked to perfection. Nice crispy skin and soft on the inside. The truffle mash with the dish was tasty.
I finished with the Golden Apple Dessert as I thought I always have something chocolate when I go out, let me try something different. Omg it was absolutely delicious. The tart was warm, and went well with the ice-cream and pecans. It was dessert heaven. Not sure what happened to the toffee sauce that was supposed to come with it but it was delicious either way. Portion size was very generous too.
My friend had the Plant Burger with fries which she was happy with. She said it was well seasoned; the fries, best she's ever had. She chose the Butterfly Flutterby for dessert. She let me try some. It was okay but very subtle in flavour.
I decided to have an "Iced Coffee" with my dessert and was given the option of an Americano or Latte, I chose the Americano but it was quite strong even with the small jug of milk so next time I would choose the latte but that is simply preference!
The ambience and atmosphere of the restaurant is very nice. We didn't know what to expect. We thought it might be a bit uppity as it was a posh establishment but it shattered any stereotype we may have had of the place. The music had us dancing in our seats, especially at one point when they played Afrobeats, I was ready to push the table aside and start dancing lol!
The dining area where the Unicorn is should be turned into a dancefloor after hours, it would be an amazing place to dance!
The food is incredible, very refined and full of flavour. You can tell its not food that is pre packaged or processed then bunged on a plate. It is real Gordon Bleu food. You can taste the quality.
I wish the staff had name tags as we have a few mentions from our visit but we don't know anyone's name so I'll have to describe them: Waiter who served us (Ample guy) - Friendly and polite, very patient when waiting for us to decide what we wanted to order. Even surprised me with a mini dessert when I said my birthday was the week prior. What a lovely surprise! Italian guy (Short with beard) - Friendly with a good sense of humour, we had such a laugh because my friend was slow eating and so we joked about him coming back in 30 mins lol. Italian looking guy in suit (Maybe supervisor?) Was wearing a navy suit - Don't laugh but when he was serving the couples opposite us and we caught a whiff of his fragrance, we were blown away. My friend said he smelt "expensive!" lol. He smelt absolutely divine - Please pass on our compliments if you can figure out who we are talking about please. Lastly - Young mixed race guy (Reminded me of a young Chris Brown/like he could be his younger brother) - Super cute, we hadn't seen him before hand but when he delivered our main course, I was like oooh he is cute lol!
Overall a tad on the pricey side but very good service and quality food and drink so you get what you pay for. We had an incredible evening, especially taking selfies in the "posh" ladies. Very instagramable lol. We will definitely come back to visit. We had an...
Read moreWhat should have been a 5 star experience for our wedding anniversary was disappointingly let down by poor service. First: The Bad: We had booked for a late dinner for two and were first joined by 4 guests for pre-dinner drinks at the bar. After being seated we had to go back to the "hostess" at the door to request menus. After choosing our drinks we then had to go and ask for service. When a barman finally made his way over, he concentrated on making the cocktails before serving the wine, meaning 3/4 of the group had to wait an age for their drinks. Once we headed in for dinner, again we had to flag someone down to order our wine, and then again to place our food order and again to order desserts and then again to order drinks refills. Not once did a member of staff ask if all was ok or if we needed anything else while we were eating. Wine refills had to be requested and used plates and cutlery only removed once we stacked them up and moved them aside. Someone eventually wandered past and asked "is everything ok?", but didn't stop and wait for a response and just kept going. And now...The Good! The venue is incredibly beautiful! It's take-your-breath-away lovely in a quirky, classic Art Deco style that is pure London! And being seated at the big window with the snow falling outside was just magical! The Exceptional! The food was out of this world! Every mouthful was a delight! Tender, sweet, juicy scallops. Crisp yet juicy, avocado and sesame fried chicken. Sweet and spicy lobster on perfectly cooked linguine. Blackened cod that needs to be tasted to be believed and two desserts that were beyond fabulous! For the flavours alone we will be back and we will tell others to try it too. Sadly, the very poor service lets...
Read moreTerrible Experience at Selfridges Light Bar – A Disgrace to British Hospitality
We visited the Light Bar at Selfridges during an incredibly difficult time—while my daughter was undergoing surgery. We wanted a quiet space to wait and were shown to a table, though not the one we’d hoped for as it was apparently booked. We were not informed the table was time-limited.
We ordered champagne (half of which was poured on the table by staff who had clearly had no training)and a first course, only to be told after ordering that they needed the table back. At that point, we explained we would never have come had we known about this time restriction, especially given the emotional strain we were under. We asked to speak with a manager, and appealed to the waiter—who seemed completely unmoved. I mentioned that in many places abroad, it would be unthinkable to eject guests under such circumstances.
Despite being halfway through our meal, staff insisted we vacate the table. Security was called, as though we were a nuisance rather than customers facing a traumatic moment. As we left, we received the heartbreaking news that our grandchild had been moved to intensive care.
Not only was there no compassion shown, we were offered bar seating, only to then be told there was no space there either. The staff were robotic, cold, and showed no understanding whatsoever. For a place like Selfridges—meant to represent the best of British service—this was nothing short of disgraceful.
A deeply upsetting and unforgettable experience. We left in tears, shocked not just by our personal tragedy, but by the complete lack of human decency from a supposedly world-class...
