Don't let the OVERCOOKED PRAISE fool you
Loads of (VERY OLD) newspaper reviews on the walls claiming "best kebab shop in London". This oft-repeated phrase is dominant in many of the 5 star reviews. Coincidence?
Many "reviews" appear to be from reviewers with virtually no prior reviewing history. Make of that what you will.
These are merely OPINIONS. Just like mine is a personal opinion and viewpoint. They are not " fact". Quite a few of my fellow reviewers seem unaware of the distinction.
Tired and a little drab on the outside. Open to the elements and a little less drab on the inside. Quite spacious but too many tables packed together so one has to squeeze in order to sit. Fortunately I was one of two customers in the dining area and so could move the seats and table behind me to make room. You go up and order, pay and they cook and serve.
This may have been nice once. But, with only canned drinks and water, poorly varnished, cheap furniture and bare brick walls that are unattractive, dirty and sparsely decorated... it is not merely uninviting; it is repellant.
I had a lamb shish with salad, humus and bread. Well cooked lamb; a bit tough in places with too much cartilage - obviously these are cheap cuts. The marinade the lamb had been prepared in was OK but nothing to write home about. Salad was fresh, good and plentiful. Humus and pita bread nice.
I have had consistently better shish in Cricklewood, Edgware, Wood Green and Harrow. I have had equal quality further up Kentish town road and lesser quality in Tuffnell park.
If you view this as a takeout and not a restaurant then it's OK. But don't let the overcooked praise fool you - you will only be...
Read moreNice place if you don't mind fly infested salad in the warmer seasons. It's unhygienic. I saw a fly on the salad when I made my order, tried to negotiate to get some of the salad from underneath the top part, the guy didn't seem to understand what I meant and just gave me less salad. Unhappily I paid and thought it's probably not that bad. Shortly after I decided that I don't actually feel comfortable eating it after all because I just don't trust the food hygeine standards seeing exposed food with a fly on it. So I went back into the shop and politely explained to them the situation and asked for either a new wrap or a refund. Politely explained that I didn't mean to cause any trouble but if it's ok. The guy who asked of my enquiry was infuriated at me, cut his eyes, walked off while talking, showed an extremely reluctant attitude and said there is no fly -he saw no fly so there is no fly so I get no refund. I told him again that I literally saw the fly on the food??? I just stood there in shock. Shortly after, the assistant manager I'm assuming, got the guy who served me to give my money back & I left the wrap on the side. They gave me no apologies or at all. It seems that they are only nice to you if you give them your money and no fuss even if you are being reasonable. Maybe he thought I wasted everyone's time but I'm not about to waste my money paying for contaminated food that could potentially make me ill. Its such a shame as well as it seems like a good quality place but I can't bring myself to come here...
Read moreI usually come to this place when I am in the area but that won't be happening anymore. The treatment was so poor that I had to say something in the end too... but... let's start from the beginning: The food was nothing special and the meat was rather tasteless. When the guy was filling my wrap I had to repeat myself few times that I wanted only 2 ingredients on my doner, but, while I was talking to him he got distracted repeatedly and at some point he started talking with somebody else. I was getting annoyed and turned for a second towards my girlfriend. When I turned my focus back to him he was filling my wrap with everything, including raw onions that I usually avoid at late night. The wrap was half burnt and dry. Another guy started dropping stuff I didn't order on my table and I had to send them back. I was still not completely disappointed at this point and thought that maybe they were just having a bad day. When I went to pay though, I realise that it wasn't just about having a bad day. These sad guys had the audacity to overcharge me after all the above happened (there are also other reviews sharing the same experience with prices inconsistency). I wasn't even looking for a discount to be honest but at least to pay the fair amount. The guy never even apologised properly and £15 pounds for a tasteless doner wrap and a bottle of water it's preposterous! Do yourself a favour and avoid this place. There are many Turkish restaurants around which are great, no need to waste time...
