Claimed to be the best but felt decided average... won't return.
Was enticed in by the Maitre'D wandering around in the street, claiming it had the highest TripAdvisor scores, free Wifi - and your first drink free. Oh, and he'd take 20% off the bill.
So we gave it a go. Upon entry I asked another waiter how to connect to Wifi who replied they didn't have it. When I pointed out that this differed from what I was told outside, so he took my phone then got it online. Not sure what happened there.
For our "free first drink", we picked Cobra. The waiter then... took a can out of the fridge and shared it between two small glasses, rather than give us bottles, explaining that this was our "free first drink".
The two meals - when ordered - came fairly quickly, and the lamb jalfrezi was nice, good and fiery with sliced chillies, but I found the chicken rogan josh was a bit disappointing; I expected a thicker tomato base and richer flavour so perhaps I should have chosen a madras instead.
I found the service was a bit hit and miss; they weren't quick to offer drinks refills or attend to any other requests we had but incredibly fast to bring the bill over. Although they'd given the 20% discount as claimed, this was offset by a service charge applied (which was cheeky, considering how poor we found the service). This was something not mentioned on the door not by the doorman.
Sadly, this didn't come up to the expectations claimed by the doorman - felt the staff let him down badly. I've been in the area since but don't feel compelled to return, and if this is supposed to be the best in Brick Lane.. then I'll try the next street...
Read moreI am an American visiting my local friend in London. Of course, one things that London is famous for is the Indian cuisine. We did a brief search on Google, and later wished we were more thorough. As many people seem to have done, we chose this place because it was one of the higher rated options. I can only imagine they must have fake reviews because this was hands down the worst rendition of Indian food I've ever had. The worst dish we ordered was the saag paneer. It was an odd mix with coconut milk and loaded with sugar. We were able to send it back, and replaced it with another paneer dish (I don't recall the name). I was a little better because it had some spice, but was also overly sweet. The butter chicken was also loaded with sugar. The only dish I could personally eat was the tandoori chicken. It was small and a bit tough, but it wasn't drenched with sweetness. All the rice was dry and crumbly as well. In the end, they tried to charge us for the saag that we sent back, an extra coke that we had not ordered, and we had to remind them of the 20 percent off that was offered to us at the door.
It's really sad this keeps coming up for people looking to try the infamous London Indian cuisine experience.
I'd recommend searching articles over customer reviews because it's not always genuine.
After the visit, we back and took a look the bad reviews. A big turn off is how defensive the owners responses are.
If you have the CCTV footage of our visit, I would LOVE for you to share it. I'm sure I had a look of distain, while only eating 1/2 of the 1/2...

I recently dined at Eastern Eye Balti House, and it was an exceptional culinary experience. From the moment I walked in, the warm ambiance and friendly staff made me feel welcome. The menu was diverse, offering a wide array of Indian and Pakistani dishes, and I opted for the Chicken Balti.
The Chicken Balti was a delightful blend of tender, succulent chicken pieces cooked in a rich, aromatic sauce that was both flavorful and spicy without being overwhelmingly hot. The spices were perfectly balanced, allowing the true essence of each ingredient to shine through. The dish was served in a traditional balti pan, adding a unique touch to the presentation.
What impressed me most was the freshness of the ingredients and the attention to detail in the preparation. It was evident that the chef had a deep understanding of the cuisine. The naan bread served alongside was soft, warm, and a perfect accompaniment to the main dish.
The restaurant's service was impeccable. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, helping me make an informed choice. The overall dining experience was enhanced by the soothing background music and the cozy, inviting atmosphere.
Eastern Eye Balti House is a gem for lovers of authentic Indian and Pakistani cuisine. Whether you're a spice enthusiast or prefer milder flavors, there's something for everyone. I highly recommend trying the Chicken Balti, and I look forward to returning to explore more of their menu. It's a culinary journey that I won't...
