@thestandardbricklane Venue Yes my foodies went down to the best Bengali cuisine restaurant in bricklane hands down!. You can tell by the atmosphere and the amount of people inside, there are few restaurants on this road not as busy as this one I promise you. Reason being is good food and good vibes!. The seating arrangement and hospitality is top tier. I felt comfortable, relaxed most of all stuffedđŸ€Ł. Starters Pappadum’s These were great freshly made can taste in the crunch. These weren’t left out like your usual restaurant for the whole day and go stale. The sauces that accompanied this were amazing. The sweet chilli was the heavy hitter for me đŸ”„ King Prawn Butterfly This was really nice the breading even the prawn inside fresh and cooked evenly. Prawn Puri Yet again starter freshly made from the prawns to the puri which was so fresh I could taste it like how my mum would make at home straight of the pan. Mix Grill Sheekh kebab This was cooked to perfection and the seasoning was the bomb you gotta get this mix grill when you are here!. Chicken Leg This was cooked fully and tasted like original Bengali tandoori flavour. Chicken Tikka This was cooked to perfection not dry and full of flavour! Lamb Tikka Same as the tikka this was cooked well with lot of flavour and moist just how it should be so it melts in your mouth. Lamb Chop This again was cooked well full of flavour succulent piece of lamb!. Mains Garlic Rice This was really good! Fresh pungent garlic mixed it really packed a punch not your average garlic rice 😏. Naan Had the naan too quick to get a pic 😂 but boy i must tell you not your average “naan”😌. Lamb Saag This was really nice rich in masala really authentic Bengali taste. The garnish fried ginger shoots added a wonderful taste to it. This curry was very in depth in taste not ur average high road lamb saag. Sweet Chilli Chicken I got bbq vibes of this but with the naan this sauce is a must have 10/10 blew me away. That and the naan alone is award winning. Prawn Curry This was really fresh and full of flavour a must try!. #londonfood

The worst Indian meal I’ve ever experienced. We were naively enticed into this restaurant for a £20 pp meal on Saturday night, having seen the good reviews & busy tables we thought ‘why not?!’. It’s now clear that the busy tables are all from dragging people off the street. To start, our popadoms arrived and were dry, brittle and just completely awful. I couldn’t eat my 2. I then hoped the onion bhajis would be better, as this would indicate the rest of the meal
the bhajis were no better and were also very dry and tasted as though they’d been cooked hours before and just reheated (I wouldn’t be surprised if they were). To finish off, the curry was also really bad (although probably the least bad part of the entire meal - which is saying something). My chicken tikka dansak was unusually extremely spicy and the chicken was chewy and tough at times. I complained twice and managed to get £4 off our £60+ bill
pretty poor in my opinion. If I could get all my money back I would, but the waiters seemed pushy and aggressive from the moment we’d sat down - we were no longer of interest as we were no longer ‘potential’ customers, but actually sat down and waiting for service. Avoid this place like the plague.

Note: I’ve rated this as 4 but it’s more like a 3.8 based on us visiting higher end restaurants where we feel a 5 rating is more achievable. For the cost – and worth noting that its much more reasonably priced than some of its neighbours – I’d say it’s definitely a 4. Much nicer decor/ambience than other places on Brick Lane and really lovely/attentive staff with great level of service (just quite slow in bringing the bill). Foodwise, the prawn puri starter was one of the best we've had on Brick Lane (we live around the corner so have tried lots!). We also ordered the chilli garlic lamb (nicely cooked lamb and perfect level of heat but could do with more garlic), prawn vindaloo (great distinctive flavour but could have been spicier), aloo gobi (a bit bland and more potato than cauliflower) and a really tasty lamb biryani with beautifully slow cooked lamb and tasty perfectly cooked rice. Very generous portion sizes (moutain of meat in the biryani!) and when staff asked for feedback (a nice touch which doesn't often happen in the area) they then gave us suggestions for next time. Definitely plan to visit again!

I went here last night with my food influencer daughter, we got there just after 7pm....

We were still there close to 10pm...

Nobody rushed us, no stressed hurried staff , in fact we were encouraged to take our time and enjoy.. which is exactly what we did..

Indian food is my area of expertise and The Standard didn't disappoint , I ordered a few different dishes that were most popular and easy to compare..

Each dish was excellent, they all tasted differently whereas some restaurants skim and use the same flavours thinking no one will notice... This woman does and this place doesn't..

They even had my favourite Lamb (Bhuna) Naga . . this is a very spicy dish and a lot of places don't get it quite right, this place did.. The veg sides were great, the breads were great, I was very happy with everything...

The Standard is open front so you get a breeze inside when it's warm outside, the seats are comfortable and it is all very clean..

The beauty here is because it is so relaxed I could have stayed longer... without eating... I would highly recommend coming here if you have curry loving kids, you can sit back and relax while the little darlings take 3 hours to eat without having staff trying to get you out the door...

There are 2 levels, so there is plenty of space for large parties

We found the staff here second to none, they engage well, seem happy in their jobs unlike some miseries I've come across, you can have a chat with them about anything, they don't throw a sales pitch at you and don't stand over you waiting for your order, everything is when you are ready...

We will definitely be going back before the end of the summer...

Ahmed, Atiq, the wonderful young man who served us, the manager and the guy who was outside that I had a great laugh with, Thank you all for a lovely evening in your Fab place that felt like home..

One last thing... If like us you couldn't finish everything they are more than happy for you to take it away...

Loved this...
