As an American visiting the UK, I was recommended the EL&N Cafe by a friend. I was told if you like cute aesthetics and the color pink, this is a must. EL&N did not disappoint!
First off the Atmosphere was so cute! This is a not a full service location like the others, as this is located in the train station. Take out is encouraged, and it didn't have a flower wall like the others. With that being said, for where it was located and offered, i think it provided a perfect enviroment to escape the hustel and bustle of a rush-hour commute, all in style. I had no choice but to take pictures. My only regret is not going to the other locations too. So cute!
The food/drinks are plentiful; so many options. Cakes, pastries, sandwiches, salads, you name it. I ordered the matcha latte, ham&cheese panini, and pistachio cake. The drink was great, love matcha and it comes with a sealed aluminum top. Would add a pump of vanilla next time. The ham & cheese was SOOOO yum. It came in a fresh everything roll, and did not disappoint. Was a good portion too! The pistachio cake was ok. It was heavy on the frosting which didn't have of ton of flavor. Give it granted, I'm not big on cake to begin with. I would opt for a pistachio croissant next time. :)
Lastly the service. I was greeted with smiles and wonderful hospitality, inviting me into the cafe. I was offered assistanve right away without hesitation, making for a nervous free experience. Dona was super helpful and provided recommendations that did not disappoint. I am so happy with this experience! Thank you Dona!!!
Overall I will be returning. The other locations probably have an even better atmosphere respectively, however if you are ever in the St. Pancras Station or surrounding areas, give it a try for sure! And bring a...
Read moreJeez, I was attracted by the lovely pink, cakes and pastries in the window, nice American vibe, but as we walk in there are old boxes, a general untidiness, five or six people behind t the pink bar,all of whom seemed to have two speeds , slow or stop.... Simple order, tea coffee and one cake between us, quite pricey, wait no tea???? Had to have coffee..... you get a number, you get your coffee in a take away non too environmentally friendly cup, also pink, good size, but then.... My friend has found a table, it needs a wipe, she asks for a cloth, waits so long she cleaned it herself.... , two people to make drinks the rest were wandering around, I'm getting worried, where is our one cake? Am I gonna get it before both drinks are cold? I ask the very lovely girl, are you all new staff? Because honestly, they all needed direction! One girl was crouched behind the bar seeming confused and out of place tbh..... Also new? Finally I went looking, and the single cake was in a box, unnecessary packaging, with a sticker, wooden cutlery in a paper sealed bag, also unnecessary packaging, and we were eating in..... Would have been more sense and faster to ask, in or out and give us ceramic cups , but then I guess that would have meant loading a dish washer and I think that may have been a step too far.... I am grumpy experienced lady by now, it should have been so different people? Expensive but, cake was delicious, over packaged in these days of environmental awareness ? Come on, a manager needed!!! Clean up and THINK and get a move on..... Really...
Read moreAVOID AVOID AVOID. Especially for celebration cakes. After visiting on my birthday last year and having the most delicious pistachio cake I planned all year to get a large one for my big birthday this year after finding out the do celebration cakes. We spent £170 on celebration cakes, my sister travelled especially from south Kent to collect them and bring them back and it was my main birthday present so to say I was looking forward to it was an understatement. I even saw the terrible reviews the day before collection and was very confused as I had already visited so chose to ignore them (more fool me!). The long awaited pistachio cake was topped with mouldy fruit which unfortunately was not noticed until I tried to have my own piece the day after collection (in photos from the minute the cake was bought back, the mould is visible), with many pieces seemingly placed to hide the mould. This caused the cream to sour. After serving the cake to a couple of family members, who very luckily did not get ill, the majority of the cake had to be binned - £75 literally in the bin!! I have sent numerous complaint emails requesting a refund for this cake and have been completely ignored (they have kept me on their mailing list though!!) It is clear the cakes were either made too far in advance/not stored properly or mouldy fruit was used originally.
I will never go back here and do not know how they get away with such a blatant disregard for...
