4ppl for dinner. Atmosphere: The place looks amazing for the archways, fun decor with metal animals and prime location.
Getting seated (trying to): Thursday evening at 8:30pm we were turned away as it was too full (understandably - it was very busy all afternoon), but the host at the door was very rude informing us of this (being walk-ins, and not booked). We finished our drinks next door, and was leaving to find another eatery when we noticed the restaurant nearly empty at 9:15pm. Asked again if it was possible to be seated, and the host reluctantly agreed. We didn't want to waste time walking around to find another place, in hindsight we really should have.
Service and food: Unfortunately the food and service was another let down. Once seated, the waiter brought menus immediately. He didn't want to leave until we ordered food. We could not get drinks menu until we ordered food. The waiting staff made every effort to show us how annoyed they were when we asked simple questions. I asked for recommendations on deciding between two dishes, and our waiter instead passive aggressively informs me he is vegan and doesn't know. Why are you working there if you going to judge patrons that do eat meat (which you serve on the menu). Food was on the table shortly after ordering (less than 10-15mins) and we still had not received our drinks for nearly 10mins after food arrived. The mixed grills, moussaka and shish were all completely dry, overcooked and tasteless, also lacked seasoning which we had to ask for, salt n pepper as it was not on the table (eye roll and huff from waiter to bring it over). Also told rudely that we should not ask for vinegar as its not something they have in the restaurant. By this time, there were only a few tables and very little going on in the restaurant.
Mixed grills had a lot of meat, bulgar wheat (all dry) and just a teaspoon of salad. The food was so dry we had to ask for cacik/tzatziki to add some moisture back, was almost charged £8 but then last minute it was told it was complimentary (by a different, friendly Indian waiter).
We then had a 15% service charge added which we really didn't want to pay but did so gritting our teeth for the terrible service and food which was left mostly uneaten.
The waiter brought the bill (we didnt ask for it) we were still talking and finishing drinks. Hint hint, get out, even though there were other tables still seated at 10:15pm. Because we didn't produce our cards as soon as the bill was brought to the table, the waiter walked away and after 20mins had not returned with the card machine. Instead was standing and talking to mother waiters at the door. We assumed we had to pay at the door and after putting on coats was told to wait at table to pay.
Staff and chefs has let this place down badly. I will definitely not recommend...
Read moreI have to admit, didn't expect much and was meeting up with a group of friends after a year of not seeing each other. We got seated really quickly with no booking which was a bonus, however because we were early arrival within our group, we didn't get asked if we wanted drinks whilst waiting for almost half an hour, even witnessed one of the waitress wondering closer to the out door seating where there were more customers seated looking for something to do and can clearly see they could have made drinks money from us as we would have ordered more than 1 whilst we were waiting......when one of our friend arrived at that point we had to find someone to take our drink orders. We were told to order starters and mains together because they were super busy ( even saw all kitchen staff disappeared at one point when they were suppose to be busy ).Food was OK but Felt there wasn't a friendly service or they choose who to be friendly too, I saw on the menu dolma but unfortunatelythey were not made in house so I asked for recommendation but nothing came out of it. Calamari was nice, they added sweet sauce like honey, not too sure but it was OK. The meatball was nice, flavoursome, The mixed grill was OK, grilled chicken was nice, tender and tasty but as for the rest, felt abit dry, bulgur wheat was tad dry too. We had to keep asking for more drinks order, wasn't offered any sauce, we had to ask for chilli sauce instead of offering. When they saw I posted some story on my Instagram, their attitude changed for split second to being nice but then that didn't last long, we were told they are closing up 10pm ( which we got lost track of time) we then asked for the bill. We were trying to sort out the bill and as I asked for a pen from the store manager I got a SIGH semi annoyed look gesture. So we had to sort out the bill as quickly as possible to void any inconvenience to them. Service charge is automatically added onto the bill so no option but to pay the whole lot. After we left we all discussed about our meal and they were all very disappointed in the whole experience. If it wasn't for my group of friends we would have walked out. Because I had such great company it didn't matter so we all stayed put.
Was the food good? Its OK but I've had better Would I recommend? Not really Price is reasonable Shame about the service but the atmosphere and dining area is lovely We won't...
Read moreI have always enjoyed Turkish food in London-but Ev in Southwark on Sat eve 21/4/18 was absolutely terrible, first and last time for me. We were a group of 12 on a reunion. The service was very poor, food was nearly thrown on the tables or at the customer, no welcoming bonhomie. Language barriers, eg I really like chargrilled lamb but the waiter didn’t understand “ chargrilled” and just kept repeating, “ it’s shish , it’s shish”. I then asked for an “ a la carte” menu instead of the set menu which was on the tables but the waiter just kept pointing at the set menu . The bread was poor quality, the hot mezes could have been better, one felafel and one pastry each-the filo pastry spinach/ cheese pastry wasn’t very nice, they’re usually a favourite of mine. When the lamb came it was only 4 small cubes about 3cm sq..and not v.gd. I forced 3 down and left one. My friend who’d ordered the same took 2 home for the dog having found them a bit grisly.Accompanied by a tasteless limp salad mainly iceberg, and a splodge of mustardy coloured couscous. Some of the desserts were good however- the chestnut one, and the fig one. Wasn’t wowed by the baclava... Nope. Definitely won’t go there again.Poor value for money, mean on quantity and the quality of what I ate could have been better. Not a good example of good Turkish food or...
