What an incredible find! I happened to see one of these in Oxford street and thought it looked interesting then came across this shop and thought I’d give it a go, best decision I’ve ever made! First of all, the staff were a delightful group, all very helpful and patient, explaining how the choosing process worked and helping with recommendations, both for mains and bakery. Special mention for Mitchell, who was very kind and helpful. Secondly, the food was absolutely incredible. Some of the best I’ve had, all perfectly prepared and seasoned. I chose the plate option, with miso tofu, farmers grains, ceaser salad and roasted aubergine. The ceaser, tofu and grains were incredible but the aubergine was perfection, absolutely packed with flavour and texture. The bakery is excellent as well, a good selection of baked goods, I had the oat cranberry, which was delicious and only £1.50 for a very good quality cookie! The bakery staff were also delightful and helpful, giving recommendations The serving sizes are excellent for the price, which is really reasonable for such quality food and dining experience Overall, I absolutely loved this and will definitely be returning again soon for more, I hope more of these are made soon

This was my first time visiting Farmer J, and we chose it as the spot to welcome a couple of new staff members to the department with an informal team lunch. It turned out to be a great choice. The restaurant had a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere, was clean, and had a clear sense of character and uniqueness that makes it stand out from the usual chains. The menu offered a good range of options, from mains to salads, catering to different tastes and dietary needs, including some halal choices. The space itself felt open and inviting, with plenty of seating, which made it easy for a group like ours to enjoy a laid-back lunch together. I ordered one of the chicken dishes (can’t recall the exact name!) and was pleasantly surprised. The food was well cooked, full of flavour, and served in generous portions. What stood out most was the freshness, you could really taste the quality of the ingredients, and it felt like a genuinely healthy meal without compromising on flavour. Overall, it was a very good experience and I’d happily recommend Farmer J, especially this location. A great spot for a casual lunch with colleagues or friends, with wholesome food that doesn’t disappoint.

ideal, high-quality, grab-and-enjoy lunch in the centre of London. i knew i was going to like it but Farmer J exceeded my expectations for ”fast food”! and the staff is so incredibly nice and knowledgeable! i had the steak as a main which looked a little meh, but was super tender! the cabbage base was pretty good, but in my opinion could have had a bit more salt or acidity. i also wish they had a few more options for bases! but anyways. the sweet potato was perfectly cooked, but also maybe the ”spice” factor could be emphasised more. the chickpea pickles were PERFECT, so tasty, so herby, gorgeous. i really liked the red pepper sauce too! and it’s such a good portion size overall! i tried some from my friends’ plates and the mac and cheese is splendid. so is the amba chicken, it really wowed me with its spice blend. their pink lemonade is one of the best i’ve ever had, simple yet effective, the sweet and sour components are balanced. i loved it and i can’t wait to again!

Five-Star Experience at Farmer J – Thanks to Chef Mitchell!

I recently visited Farmer J in Russell Square, London, and while the food was absolutely delicious and fresh — exactly what you’d hope for from a place that prides itself on wholesome, vibrant meals — what truly made the experience unforgettable was the exceptional service from Chef Mitchell.

Mitchell wasn’t just serving food — he was creating an experience. With a huge, genuine smile and an incredibly warm attitude, he took the time to engage with every customer, explaining the dishes with care and making sure everyone felt welcomed and valued. His patience, enthusiasm, and attention to detail stood out in the best possible way.

It’s rare to encounter someone who brings that level of heart to their work, and it elevated the entire visit. Kudos to Farmer J for not only offering great food but also employing people like Mitchell who clearly love what they do.

Thank you, Mitchell — you made a great meal into a...
