Had a breakfast there today, been there a couple of times and never had any issues until today... It wasn't the usual person taking my order at the counter.
I ordered my 5 item breakfast (advertised at £6.60 which is very reasonable).
My order was as follows: (1) Egg (scrambled instead of fried) (2) Bubble (3) Tomato (4) Hash brown (5) Mushroom
I ordered in addition, a side of toast (advertised as 40p) and a cup of coffee (advertised as £1.80).
By my calculations my breakfast total should have been: £8.80, however I was charged £10.90.
I sat down and thought about this amount, questioned the cost as soon as a member of staff came past me, as the queue at the counter was too long at this point to go back to query it, I was told that I ordered 6 items and that I was charged correctly.
Again I counted the items on my plate in case I'd made a mistake, I hadn't, there was 5 breakfast items.
I ate my breakfast and was going to discuss it further after I'd finished, the young lady I had earlier asked about the cost, came back to me while I was still sitting at the table, she informed me that scrambled egg was classed as 2 items and it was 40p per slice of toast not 40p per portion, firstly at NO time was I informed of my egg being healthily scrambled instead of fried was counted as 2 items and secondly that I would be receiving an extra portion of toast when I just requested toast!
The young lady was very pleasant and apologetic however as this was not a mistake on my part but on the part of the counter staff (young lady told me that I should really have been informed by the staff) and food boards not stating the above, I should have been refunded the extra money that I was misleadingly charged but I wasn't.
I can honestly say this experience has not been a pleasant one for me and feel that it has sadly put me off going back, which is a shame as the food is lovely and the regular staff are lovely especially the 2 ladies working there.
As I have been visiting Charing for the last 4 weeks on and off, I have been popping in the cafe to allow myself a little break from everything that is going on and it has been what I needed, sadly this option has now been taken away from me because of my...

Having noticed the Half Moon Cafe on the way, we decided to try it afterwards. So pleased that we did. Seating inside is tables of four places on both sides of a central aisle towards the counter. Weather dependant, seating is also provided outside the front door next to the pavement. (Sunny with a cool wind today (February 2023)). These places are used for people smoking which is not allowed (illegal) inside. Check the menu photographs out. Surely there must be something that you would eat :-). On arrival, go up to the counter, make your choices, pay and take a seat. Items are brought to the table by staff. Choices for us were a full breakfast and a slightly smaller one, accompanied by tea in mugs and buttered toast. There was a delay in getting ours but this simply proved that orders are cooked fresh to order so very acceptable. Portion size was large, with the food piping hot. For the two of us, with meals and two teas, the bill came in under £ 20. Excellent value. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Overall, a very good experience and one that we shall repeat...
Read morePopped in for a little brekkie recently after seeing this while commuting. Partner had an egg & sausage bap & latte, I had a no.9 breakfast plate with black pudding & swapped my hash browns for some bubble n squeak, with some fried bread on the side. The whole lot was about £12.
& now for the review, there’s nothing “amazing” about this little cafe, but that’s exactly why you should go there, you see it’s incredibly simple & classic “workers” dishes, all the food food is made to a good standard, with none of the little details that go into a GOOD cafe dish skipped or done badly.
The service was very efficient, fast, & done with pride, & while the place was certainly busy, it also didn’t feel rushed, with the place filled with all sorts of workers getting theyre breakfast in to fuel the day (you can ALWAYS tell a good cafe, as it’ll be full of workers).
We don’t go to cafes often, it’s a classic treat, & this one has now become our go-to for sure!
Another point of note are the prices, they’re very good, especially in this current economic climate, you’ll get a good meal at a very good price.
