Hjem is a cute little coffee shop with potential, and while the pastries are decent I’d rate them an 6 out of 10 they could use improvement. Often, the pastries are burnt or excessively oily, with the olive oil overpowering the flavors. With a little more attention to detail, they could rival other bakeries.
Unfortunately, the real issue is the staff, particularly a manager named Ryan, identifiable by his orange hair. His consistently rude and condescending demeanor has created an uncomfortable atmosphere for myself and other patrons. He frequently seems in a negative mood, making sarcastic or inappropriate comments, and his attitude has led many locals to avoid this establishment entirely.
Most concerning, however, is that I personally witnessed Ryan making an anti-Semitic comment recently, which is absolutely unacceptable. There is no place for such discriminatory behavior, and it reflects poorly on the coffee shop to allow this to continue. As a Chinese man, I find this behavior offensive and deeply troubling, and I cannot recommend this place to anyone from Jewish or other minority backgrounds.
Additionally, I’ve seen him speak dismissively to others of different religious or cultural groups, which further underscores a pattern of intolerant and unprofessional behavior. It’s shocking that someone with such conduct remains employed in a customer facing role.
Hjem could be a great neighborhood coffee spot, but until the management addresses this toxic behavior, I cannot support or recommend it. Respect and inclusivity are essential in any establishment, and I urge the owners to take action to ensure this behavior is not tolerated...
