My wife really wanted to go and check out this pub. Being a big Sherlock Holmes fan growing up, she really wanted to see what this place was about. I know better than to deny her!
We headed into the pub but then realized the food service was upstairs. Walking upstairs we didn’t realize that we needed a reservation. The front desk steward (who also was our server) just told us to wait 10 minutes to see if the reservation ever shows up. If they were even one minute late, they would have us take their reservation. Spoiler alert: We got in!
There was tons of Sherlock Holmes photos & memorabilia everywhere along the top portion of the bar. There food section was pretty small - maybe enough for 15-20 tables; therefore, online recommendations are definitely necessary.
Service was pretty quick, especially due to the fact that there was only one server. He did a great job at making sure our water was full and checking in on us.
We then made our minds pretty quick with food. My wife choose the Philly sandwich & I chose the fish & (three times fried) chips (fries). We also ordered sides of both seasoned chips (fries) & onion rings.
My wife thought her Philly sandwich was decent. She loved her seasoned chips though. These were here favorite chips on our entire trip! These were sturdy fries that held a nice hint of sea salt.
The onion rings were pretty decent. Definitely heavy on the breading, but not a bad way to do it!
My fish and chips featured a fried cod with “triple-fried” chips (fries). The fish was delicious and was enjoyed with the lemon and malt vinegar to enhance the flavor. The cod was both fresh and composed of flaky layers. This was definitely a sweeter cod than others that I’ve tried.
The triple-fried chips were thick and heavy. They were reminiscent of steak cut chips/fries and possess a thick potato filling. Almost enough to call them wedges. These thick chips definitely met the fryer oil more than once as it absorbed a lot of oil. Thankfully, it was a pleasant and tasty experience.
The peas were pretty good, but they are just standard peas.
Overall this place exceeded expectations. I honestly thought this might be a tourist attraction/trap, but I was wrong.
If you’re a Sherlock Holmes fan, you’ll enjoy the vibe & food. If you’re not, at least you’ll...

Nestled conveniently close to iconic landmarks like Trafalgar Square and the Thames, this pub offers more than just a meal; it's a dive into a Victorian adventure.

The food is a hearty nod to traditional British pub fare with some modern twists. The fish and chips are a standout, boasting perfectly crispy batter and flaky fish, paired excellently with mushy peas and tartar sauce. The ale selection is robust, featuring local brews that Holmes himself would approve of, perhaps with a mysterious smile.
The service at Sherlock Holmes Pub is as noteworthy as its atmosphere. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable, often ready to share a tale of the pub's storied past or suggest the perfect pint to accompany your meal.

Read moreWe had booked a table for 7:30pm. The waiter came to us around 8 pm. After we ordered drinks and food consisting of 3 starters and 4 main courses, we sat and waited for the dishes. We waited another 30 minutes for our drinks before the waiter came back upstairs and apologized. Around 8:30 pm they served us one appetizer that I ordered, and friends still did not get anything from the order. After another 30 minutes of waiting, my friends got their starters and main course completely cold at the same time, and my boyfriend and I were still waiting for our dishes. It was already 9:30 pm when we went to ask why we still hadn't gotten our food by this time our waiter had long gone home. We were told that our dishes were not entered into the system at all. When we asked to talk to the manager of the restaurant, we got information that the manager would prepare our meals herself, because the kitchen had been closed for a long time. They told us to wait 20 minutes but at that time the waiter came and said that our bill was written at the expense of the company as compensation but we did not get information that they would not give us the food. In general, the staff knew little English, the waiter who came overtime drank alcohol and feasted with friends while we as guests sat hungry and waited for nothing. I do not recommend this place with all my heart, because all you will get is a spoiled evening and an...
