Humble Crumble | Camden Market — Restaurant in London

The crumble and custard were satisfactory, and I would consider returning for them; however, the overall experience was marred by poor customer service. I purchased 2 large crumbles, 1 frozen custard, and 1 hot custard. Unable to carry all four items simultaneously, I politely asked the lady with the hijab if I could temporarily leave the remaining two on the counter for 30 seconds. Unfortunately, when I gestured towards my items, another staff member rudely admonished me not to touch them, causing embarrassment.

Upon reaching my table in the Stables Market, I realized one of my custards was missing its flower petal topping. Returning to the counter, I inquired about the missing topping, to which the lady with the hijab responded dismissively, "Do you want the petals?" is what she said, only providing the topping after I insisted it was part of my purchase. Despite my complaint, she offered no apology.

Later, around 6:03 PM, I approached that staff member without the hijab (as there were only 2 female staff at that time) who embarrassed me, and explained the embarrassing incident, requesting an apology. Instead of acknowledging the error gracefully, she initially argued with me, telling me she was at the back and "couldn't understand what was going on" and assumed that I was making something dirty or stealing, before begrudgingly offering an apology. Acting on assumptions and making the customer feel bad or embarrassed is unacceptable! It was disappointing that she continued to dispute the issue even after apologizing instead of listening to resolve it amicably. I then walked away from her as she was rude and unprofessional.

Regardless of her position in the store, the staff should prioritize respectful and positive interactions with customers. Assuming my intentions without inquiry and publicly embarrassing me was unacceptable. They should have approached the situation with kindness and understanding, rather than making baseless assumptions and causing unnecessary embarrassment. Overall, the experience was tainted by the staff's rudeness and lack of professionalism.

It was a sunny friday afternoon when I visited them and I ordered their classic take on the crumble dessert which was the apple and cinnamon fruit base, granola secondary base and hot custard topping. It is customizable and you can add as many toppings as you wish like rose petals, almonds & hazelnuts, dark chocolate drizzle, marshmallows, etc. I would say it is slightly over-hyped for some reason but I definitely got to admit that it is the best custard I've ever tasted. It literally carries the whole dessert. Creamy, rich & not excessively sweet. Perfect ! The apple and cinnamon and the granola was as expected and there was no distinct live flavour profile. The portion sizes are good and honestly if you're not a dessert person, like I am, you can share a regular. Otherwise, get a large. As far as prices are concerned, compared to the other stalls at Camden and in London it is pretty good and reasonable as long as they don't increase it out of over confidence and trip big time. Thumbs up from me and I'd certainly suggest you to give it a go if you haven't had one before or it is your first time trying...

We tried both the apple and cinnamon crumble and the berry crumble, each topped with the creamiest, most indulgent custard. The apple and cinnamon was perfection — warm, spiced apples that had just the right amount of sweetness, paired with a crumbly topping that melts in your mouth. And the berry crumble? Equally amazing, with a mix of tart berries balanced beautifully by the rich, buttery crumble and silky custard.
