It’s a YMCA restaurant, you don’t expect too much, went at a late lunch hour, not crowded, walked to a small counter with a big menu board hanging up, next to you with food displayed there portion by portion 🤔
two very informative workers keep telling me what they have, chicken, lamb, curry, dip, salad, chicken, lamb, curry…… can I have a second to think and look ?
I picked lamb curry, he asked if I want rice, yes rice, he asked how about naan, er…… ok, but give me less rice, but later I regret the naan order.
They have a garden seat, nice. But I stayed in.
The taste of the lamb curry is nice, less buttery than those over price Indian restaurants, but fresh & yum. However, it’s cold, not even warm. Then the naan , it’s soft , not crunchy at all, and texture more like a wheat bread instead of naan bread, most importantly, it’s cold.
As I said, don’t expect too much, but all together cost me £14.5. Not worth, I’d rather pay £30 to have good Indian food. Then the waiter guy came collect my unfinished food, he asked is everything ok, I said the lamb taste is nice but everything is cold. He said, you can ask for microwave heat it up.

Read moreThis was a good find - five stars based on flavor and value. I was looking for a mellow dinner - a bit jet lagged - and read some reviews and decided to give the Indian WMCA a chance and I’m glad I did. It’s a Friday evening and the set menu was 11 quid. For that price I got an excellent (sugar optional) chai (I suspect refills might be allowed on that), rice, a large chapati, yellow lentil dal, red bean dal, a veggie dish, whole eggs cooked in a very savory tomato and onion sauce, what looked like rice pudding but is a cooling yogurt rice side (?) and chicken wings that just might be the richest tandoori flavor (very generously spiced) that I’ve ever had! And a green apple. It’s served cafeteria style so no waiting. Very authentic food. A little healthier and lighter than the chicken tiki masala and sag paneer that I would normally order at an Indian restaurant. Spice level medium to...
Read moreRestaurant hall inside the YMCA hostel open to non-guests. I work locally and visit the Indian YMCA Restaurant 1-2 times per month. This is very much a canteen experience, fold-away chair tables/self service on trays/no waiters (no tipping required) other than the chaps clearing the tables. During week day lunch they normally have 10-15 food options that you collect from the kitchen window and pay for at the cashier, each option is £4-6 so expect to pay £12-£15. As a ++large man I normally go for rice, 1 chapati, 2 curry dishes and a bhaji portion which cost around £21 total. The food is authentic Asian fare spicy but not excessively. Whilst it is a canteen, there is a awning covered outside area that is far more quiet than the canteen. If you like authentic Indian food, are happy to forgo the restaurant atmosphere and are in the area I would recommend the Indian...
