We sat indoors on a sunny day. The pretty pavement terraces were busy and we wanted privacy. The unsmiling barista/waiter turned the music down slightly at our request. Im not sure where the friendly staff comments come from, positively soviet in his approach. There was a bunch of dead flowers decorating our table. Should have been a warning sign. The food we ordered was good and for those of you who are into big portion sizes, you get them here. The pastel as a starter was easily a hungry person's lunch. My feijuarda was perfectly sized and tasty, although it was brought to the table before I had finished the pastel. My wife doesn't eat onions and had ordered a cheese and ham omelette. The salad came with onions and she thought she saw onions in the omelette and asked for it to be replaced. There followed an almost Monty Python sketch where the unsmiling barista took the omelette back to the kitchen, a cheery woman came out (possibly the owner) and said that although there were onions in the salad she had asked the chef who swore he had not put onions in the omelette. My wife eats about a quarter of the omelette and gets to the onions (they weren't evenly distributed). I send the omelette back to the kitchen saying that we do not want a replacement. The unsmiling barista brings it back asking us where we can see onions. There are clearly onions, both the ones that my wife has started picking out in an effort not to make a fuss and more, red ones, in the actual omelette. I'm not sure what weird game of bluff or psychic meltdown was happening back there but it was weird and unpleasant. After we had shared the feijuarda and asked for the bill the friendly woman came out of the kitchen with a new omelette which she said she had made herself without onions and we didn't have to pay for. But by then we just keen to pay the bill (without being charged for the omelette- the unsmiling one was very keen to point out this was not his error) and leave. Good portions of Brazilian food and a nice location. Erratic service spoiled what should have been an...
Read moreThe worst management I ever seem in my life. Since Ilda the former owner left, whoever took over has no costumer service skills whatsoever. I was there today to have some food as I have been going to Cafe Rio, for the past 12 years. When I got there I was waiting outside for 10 minutes before someone take my order. When the waitress came she was a very nice lady who told me she has only being working there for the past 3 days. I've mentioned that they have increased the price but, still I was going to have a coxinha and later a pao de queijo. I had coxinha which it was good but when I tried the pao de queijo. I had only two bites of the pao de queijo and I coudn't finish it as it tasted horrible. I told the waiter I didn't like it and explained the reasons and asked her please to bring the bill. The new "manager" or owner, a brazilian guy who did not want to give his name, came outside saying that I would still have to pay for it as I had insolted his management and stablishment by saying his price was too high and that I was not welcomed there anymore as I was no one and that this kind of costumer he does not need there and that I was a piece of sh*t. I was astonished by what I was hearing. Not satisfied he carried on insulting me. I paid my bill and left hearing insults from this man. There are much better and cheaper Brazilian...
Read moreI have been to this cafe many many many times because of convenience and to be close to the places I have to visit for work. Last 3 times I have been there I walked away. Nobody even noticed my absence. Apart from the lady of the kitchen who is an adorable person. ( she actually served me once because nobody did). So last 3 times I walked away empty handed because these people do not serve you at all. They look at you and Just do nothing. Very last time was today. I came in and really decided to go. Not only because of the lack of attention but because I know the place and I knew after I could finally order the food would take about 45/1hour to be ready. No matter what you order or how many clients are in the place it will take ages for you actually eat anything. The prices are very high. For a “feijoada” or a “picanha steak” 16+ pounds plus drinks. I am sorry to write a review like this because I really like the lady from the kitchen but it’s the truth. The food itself is not good enough. I’m Brazilian myself and wasn’t really blow away with the food. Not good portions and when your food arrives almost cold it’s really frustrating for the price they charge.
Sorry guys not coming anymore. I really didn’t want to review but the way you trade it is...
