Not coming again anymore sorry - the whole experience is a scam.
Expecting quite a lot originally (after seeing a lot of good reviews online), I must say it is very disappointing after all.
FIRST TIP - don't accept their offer about tea unless you are willing to pay £7 + 12.5% charge for that. Once you get in the restaurant, the staff will offer you tea without telling you they will charge you £7 for that. I realise right when I paid the bills.
Tokyo Sashimi - taste is fine, the sashimi is fresh
Assorted Sashimi Rice (£16) - 6/7 extremely thin slices of sashimi (NOT FRESH AS WELL, including cooked shrimp excuse me?) with a bunch of gingers and marinated appetizer trying to fill the bowl. TBF wasabi is even fresh than this.
Eel rice (£15?) - taste is so-so. Not good not bad.
mackerel nigiri (or something else?) - not impressive as well.
A lady is really friendly and chatty which I appreciate, but I really do have to point out the unpleasant experience we have with another staff / owner? When we ordered the food, we made it VERY CLEAR for a few times which we are ordering. Eventually not sure if they have delivered something different or not, but they charged us more than that. For instance, we ordered 2 nigiris (mackerel) which costs around £4 they are charging us something different, so make sure you check the bill carefully (and of course the £7 tea).
They first denied the over-charge, claiming "thats the food i eat". I must be honest to say that every sashimi basically looks the same, and I cannot really distinguish them with others save as salmon and tuna. The man insisted this is what we had had and refused to update the bill. Eventually he was willing to do so when we insisted we have made it very clear in the beginning.
All in all, if I am spending over £80, I would have expected food + service to be much better. If you are looking for good quality japanese food, maybe go for the one in Bond Street - similar price but better quality...
Read moreI had read some negative reviews about this place as well as good ones, so I thought the only way to find out for myself was to go there and try it. One of the negative comments was the service, but we found the service to be fast and attentive and very good. Another was a high 15% service charge rather than the industry standard 12.5% This seems to have been taken on board as we were only charged 12.5%. One thing we did notice though was that there were a number of Japanese couples and diners, all seated around the bar on the ground floor, while everyone else not of Japanese decent was either seated downstairs on the dancefloor area or upstairs. I’m not suggesting there is some sort of racial profiling going on here, and it is always reassuring to see the native people of the cuisine that you are actually eating in the restaurant, but some someone needs to look at the seating allocations with less segregation. When we arrived it was fairy quiet but very soon it was very busy, but the service still remained fast and professional. The busyness of this place indicates it’s popularity as we detected a number of regular customers who seemed to know the staff on a familiarity basis. To sum this place up. Great food, dining, and drinks at a reasonable price, with fantastic service. I would highly recommend Kitcho on the basis of our personal experience here, and hope to try this...
Read moreRecently visited Kitcho on Greenwich High Road for the first time. It's not in the city centre, but close to Greenwich town and Greenwich Park. Heard a neighbouring table say it's the best Japanese food they've had in London, even better than the city centre. We tried a few recommended dishes:Tai no Usuzukuri (Sea Bream Sashimi) is worth to have a try. It has fresh sea bream, thinly sliced with soy sauce and green onions. Refreshing and slightly spicy, with a Southeast Asian vibe.I’d recommend Tokyo Sashimi, A platter with fresh tuna, salmon, and more. Thick cuts and very fresh, with great wasabi. My friend also ordered Chilli Beef Ramen:Spicy ramen with tender beef and veggies. The broth is flavourful, though not overly spicy. I ordered Nabeyaki Udon, which is Udon with shrimp tempura, veggies, and an egg. Served in a hot pot, very comforting and rich.Their sushi rolls were also excellent. I like their California Roll: Crab stick, avocado, and cucumber, topped with fish roe. Very refreshing. Also tried two mocktails: Scarlet Dream: Strawberry-based, bright and sweet. Perfect for summer. Really like the cocktail Passion Fruit Lemonade: Great blend of passion fruit and lemon, very appetising. They also have a meeting room available for gatherings. Overall,...
