Visited North Pole for dinner one Friday. Upon arrival there was a security guard on the door who insisted our bags were searched at the entrance, a bit odd when going into a restaurant area - but fine. We found a table, and ordered a starter and main course. We then decided to order a glass of wine each - served in a plastic cup, this is fine due to covid-19 pandemic but it would have been appreciated if a member of staff told us before dumping two plastic cups of wine on the table. At £7 for a glass of wine, I'd rather not have it - I'm not drinking at a park. When I told waitress I didn't want it, they gave us a glass but said "don't let anyone see" ... I was happy to go with out on the occasion. Our waitress then went on to say to my friend "babe can you hurry up and drink that so people don't see" this shocked us slightly, were not buying a wine to down as a shot! Starters came out, squid and houmous and flat bread, was very nice. Both me and my friend ordered lamb shish with rice for our mains and I cant say it was as nice as our starters. Mains came out, cutlery in a glass on the table, and sauces in sachets on the other side of the room (limited selection, ketchup, mayo and sweet chilli - odd selection when its predominantly a meat restaurant) when we asked for additional sauces that compliment lamb our waiter said no.
I was going to just eat the food, it was getting late so unlikely to get anything else, but I did begrudge paying £15.95 when I could have got better at a third of the price in a kebab shop. My friend said she was unhappy with the lamb as it was over cooked and dry. At this point I decided to complain as the whole experience was disappointing. When I complained the waitress accused me saying "well you've eaten most of it" ... yes I'm not complaining on the lamb myself, I'm complaining on the experience. She did apologise, and offer a dessert on the house which was nice, but i just think that certain things should be changed to let your guests have a better experience and feel as if they're getting value for money. Overall, a disappointing evening, will stick to just a drink...
Read moreThe restaurant is located on the first floor of the North Pole public house in Greenwich. Here you will find an elegant stylish restaurant. Real table linen and napkins, green and gold is the predominant colour theme with heavy drapes, chandeliers and large black and white photos of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Peter Lawford and Sammy Davis Junior, the Rat Pack set the tone. The best is yet to come welcoming and friendly staff took our order. I had the Pan Fried Fillet of Sea Bass, with grilled funnel and courgettes, sun dried tomatoes and dill dressing which was delicious followed by the Lime cheese cake. My companion had the Corn fed chicken Ballantine served with tarragon mousse, potato and truffle purée, green veg and cep cream followed by Dark Chocolate Mousse with Grand Marnier, roasted hazelnuts and fresh strawberries. As it was a Friday Francesco the Italian piano player added to the ambiance and excellent character of this great Greenwich restaurant. To get to Greenwich from central London we took the Thames Clipper shuttle boat from the Embankment pier to Greenwich, the best way to travel in London. The restaurant is 15 minutes past the Cutty Sark through the Greenwich old town. As we left after 10.20 pm past the time of last return boat from Greenwich to the Embankment so we took the Dockland Light Railway (DLR) from the Greenwich station which is a scenic ride and the station is just 2 minutes’ walk from the restaurant and we were back at the Bank station in 20 minutes. You will really enjoy this stylish little restaurant with great food. Well worth a visit. Highly recommended and they provide a 50% discount on the food aspect of your bill on a Saturday. Live piano Thursday, Friday,...
Read moreThe customer service here is just as cold and really takes after the name of the venue!
Went for a friends birthday & were nowhere near accommodated as such. Our party arrived early and were still made to wait 15 mins after our booking time for the table, and were only able to order 40 minutes later. Had 13 people squashed like sardines onto a table that really only fit 10, with our party hanging off the sides and having to encroach on another customer’s table (luckily they didn’t mind). There are also no social distancing measures in place whatsoever.
Service was rushed, rude and staff are quick to run away from requests like they haven’t heard you calling... except when charging the bill, where they are more than happy to waste time standing around hovering over the table like flies.
Security are overtly rude & abrasive. No greeting at the door except ‘show me your ID’, to then be charged an undisclosed £5 entry fee each after putting a deposit down for the table (no special event like football was going on)... Staff/ security were still more than happy to kick us out towards closing in a very hostile manner, yet of course allowed their white customers to continue smoking, socialising & stay in the venue until after us.
Don’t be fooled. This place LOOKS boujie, however it is mutton dressed as lamb when their customer service lacks the basic requirements of a suitable establishment. They don’t care for their black customers, although bringing in 90% of the custom there. The only thing still keeping them going is their overpriced menus & exploitative entry fees. I don’t recommend and won’t...
