I visited the city eatery with high hopes but left with awful experience. I walked by few restaurants before deciding to go inside Leman Tavern. Prior to entry the tavern I looked at the menu posted outside and glanced through the window. I was impressed with the setting and without hesitation, I ordered fish & chips and a pint of lager then, looking forward to a good afternoon. But I end up with one of the worse eatery experience; my beer comes with clearly visible long hair on the froth. When I draw this to the attention of the waiter, she was very embarrassed, but I quickly made her feel at ease. She offered me another one. I am not a fussy person, but I must say, the beer tastes worse than a water down cough mixture. The food? Well, the fish and chips were unbelievably terrible; the fish taste stale, semi-mushy texture with soggy barter (£15 with no salad); surely a gastropub price but not in quality. Nevertheless, it is fair to say that the staff were welcoming and friendly. I was offer refund for my drink, but I declined the offer.

The only real options if you work in the Algate East area. Yes! There are other options, but they are either moulding vestiges of times past or plain old boring and expensive because of the post code (or both of those). Leman St. Is neithe od the above. Itnis however:, welcoming place with good food and reasonably priced drinks. The mood is set by great decour and equally great music. Overall the only place I'd go for a drink within a milr radius!! Tl;DR - good for drinks, work events or one drink!

Ordered the house special Mixed Grill, the portion is ginormous so you definitely get your money worth, I would order for 2 to share. Also, they easily exchanged fries for salad, which was delicious. However, the meats are on the dry side, the sausage is super bland, also a BIG temperature difference between parts. The pork rib meat was probably the best, liver also surprisingly nicely seasoned. Overall, felt like a TGIfridays type of of dish, but in a way nicer setting!

I pre-ordered a delicious sounding beetroot & fennel nut roast with bloody mary sauce for a work Christmas lunch. When my plate arrived, I was dismayed to see that it was just a pile of cooked beetroot on top of some potatoes and veg. The waitress could offer no explanation. The manager attempted to tell me that this was the version for nut allergy sufferers, though I found it hard to believe that any nut allergy sufferer would order a nut roast, and no one had made any mention of a nut allergy when ordering. This also did not explain the absence of bloody mary sauce. After a non-apology, I was offered a bowl of nuts and seeds and some bloody mary sauce on the side, making it clear that there never was a nut roast in the first place. If they had informed me at any point that there had been a problem or mistake that meant my dish had not been prepared, I would have understood of course. I was disappointed less by the food itself and more by the lack of communication and the overall treatment I received. I'm not sure how they expected me to react when brought a heap of cooked beetroot in place of a nut roast, but I couldn't help but feel they were hoping I wouldn't notice.

To management: please treat all diners with respect for their intelligence. Please communicate if there is a a problem with a dish. Please apologise with integrity if there is an issue. Saying nothing won't make it go away. I applaud you for offering a vegan option, but it is not enough to offer one if it is not actually going to...

We had Xmas lunch here, 17.12.24. Whilst the service was good and the staff were great the same cannot be said for the food. The beef was still raw and I had to send it back, I was not asked how I want my beef cooked at the start which is unusual. We also send the pigs in blankets back as the bacon was not crispy and appeared undercooked and unappetising. The vegetables was hard and therefore must have been undercooked. The gravy was some concoction of oil and tomato which I must admit I have never seen on a plate of roast dinner, it was very underwhelming. I was told by the manager this is the recipe they received from the head office and they must adhere to it. We were all so much looking forward to our family pre Xmas meal, but it was not to be. At this point we gave up the will to live and did not want to send the veg back either. So we just stuck with it but certainly did not enjoy it. At £45 for a 3 course meal you come to expect more. I felt sorry for the service staff and the manager as he tried his best to lessen the blow by discounting 3 drinks and the service charge. The total food bill came to £159 for 3 roast dinners and 4 side dishes. Ultimately this is down to the chef and the kitchen. I have eaten here before and the food was good, not sure...

I recently had the pleasure of dining for lunch, and it was an experience worth every star of this five-star review. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the friendly and polite staff, who made me feel genuinely welcomed and well-cared for throughout my visit. Their attentiveness was unparalleled, as they even refilled my cup of tea without me having to ask—a small but significant gesture that exemplifies their excellent service. The highlight of my meal was the open steak sandwich with wild rocket and chimichurri. This was, without a doubt, the best steak sandwich I have had in a long time. The steak was cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful, while the wild rocket added a fresh, peppery crunch. The chimichurri sauce was a delightful addition, enhancing the flavors with its tangy and herbaceous notes. The venue itself is very nice and modern, boasting a stylish and comfortable setting that adds to the overall dining experience. The atmosphere is friendly and inviting, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed lunch or a casual gathering...
