We have been regular customers at this establishment for several years, but unfortunately, the quality of the food and service has been inconsistent. On our recent visit, the pizzas were overcooked—essentially oven-roasted rather than properly prepared. This is completely unacceptable, as such poorly made pizzas should never leave the kitchen. It is the responsibility of the pizza chef to check the quality of food before it is served. In the past, when this issue occurred, we complained, and the staff replaced the pizzas. However, this time we refrained because it was clear there was only one person making pizzas, and they were visibly overwhelmed. This reflects poor management, as adequate staffing should be ensured, especially on a busy Thursday night when local pubs are crowded, and nearby hotels bring additional customers. For a bill exceeding £40—including sides, dips, drinks, and dessert—it is deeply disappointing and disrespectful to be served burned pizzas (photo attached). To compound matters, there appeared to be more staff assigned to cleaning tables than working in the kitchen, which raises serious concerns about resource allocation and prioritization. I strongly urge management to address these issues by: 1. Ensuring proper quality checks in the kitchen. 2. Scheduling sufficient staff during peak times to maintain service standards. 3. Providing proper training to ensure consistency in food preparation. We have enjoyed this place in the past, but experiences like this make us question whether it is worth returning.

Pizza Union – Aldgate Review Pizza Union in Aldgate is one of those spots that nails the balance between quality, speed, and price. The first thing you notice is the atmosphere – industrial décor with a buzzy, informal vibe that makes it perfect for a quick bite with friends, family, or even before a night out. The pizzas themselves are thin-crust, Roman style, and cooked in just a couple of minutes in their giant stone ovens. The bases are crisp, light, and slightly charred, which gives every bite that authentic Italian feel. Toppings are generous but never over the top – fresh mozzarella, spicy nduja, smoky pepperoni, and plenty of veggie options too. If you fancy something different, their “Dolce” dessert pizza (Nutella, mascarpone, and biscuit crumbs) is worth saving space for. Price-wise, it’s hard to beat. Most pizzas are under £10, and you get full size, restaurant-quality food for what you’d pay for a takeaway. Drinks are self-service and affordable, and they also do cocktails and craft beers if you want to make an evening of it. Service is quick and efficient – order at the counter, grab your buzzer, and within five minutes your pizza is piping hot on the table. Staff are friendly but don’t hover, which fits the casual style perfectly. Overall: If you want fast, fresh, and affordable pizza in East London, Pizza Union Aldgate is a winner. It’s not fine dining, but that’s exactly the point – great food, great value, zero fuss.

Well I don't think I've had pizza this cheap in quite a while. Even the drinks are extremely wallet friendly. This seems like a local, neighborhood pizza spot, most likely for the university community. 3.50£ Frozen Margarita - Tequila, Lime, Rosemary: The drinks are mild, and very light on alcohol, but it's not bad for 3.50! Frozen margaritas are always nice and refreshing. I don't think the rosemary added anything, just acted as a prickly garnish. 3.95£ Margherita - Tomato sauce, mozzarella, basil & 5.95£ - Tomato sauce, mozzarella, double pepperoni: Straight out of their fiery oven are cracker-thin, super-crunchy pizzas (Roman style). The pepperoni are the kind that are baked until they form concave shapes, and little pools of oil form. Parts of the pizza were a little too hard. Pizzas were not bad, but there was not much to them. If I was a local in the area, I would probably visit Pizza Union from time to time for an inexpensive, filling meal.

Having eaten here a number of times and enjoyed it I just had one of the worst experiences.

Essentially the oven broke down. Which is unfortunate but these things happen. The response from the staff however was chaotic, stressed and uncommunicative.

Usually the pizza takes about 10 mins but it was busy so I recognised it might take a bit longer. After 40 mins however I went to check on progress. I find out the oven had been broken for at least 30 mins. Other customers had gathered as no one had proactively said anything.

In the end. I and a number of others needed a refund to get back to work.

We were then queued up for about 20 mins as they began to process refunds. While we as customers explained to people coming in that the oven was broken so to find somewhere else. The first few refunds were exceptionally slow.

When I got to the till they simply asked what amount I paid, found the record and processed the refund. When I asked if that was everything sorted the man behind the till replied ‘yes all done… next’ no apology or recognition.

Ovens break, that’s fine, and I sympathize with the staff who were clearly in a stressful situation. It’s a lack of training and process for this kind of situation at fault here.

A sign that says the place is closed, identifying which orders are unlikely to be fulfilled and notifying those customers immediately, simply apologizing for the inconvenience. All simple steps that could have been implemented and trained on here. So that what could have been a minor 10 minute inconvenience doesn’t end up swallowing my entire lunch break.

I won’t be heading back to this branch after this experience and I hope this is review is helpful for...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Pizza Union, and I have to say, the service provided by the skinny Spanish guy(Dieter) was truly excellent! From the moment my party and I walked into the restaurant, he greeted us with a warm smile and made us feel right at home.

His attentiveness throughout our meal was remarkable. He not only took our orders promptly but also made sure to check on us regularly, ensuring that everything was to our satisfaction. His knowledge of the menu was impressive, and he was more than willing to make recommendations based on our preferences.

What truly stood out was his efficiency. Despite the busy atmosphere, he managed to serve all the tables with a calm and collected demeanor. He juggled multiple tasks effortlessly, ensuring that everyone received their food and drinks promptly. His ability to multitask without compromising the quality of service was impressive.

Furthermore, the skinny Spanish guy had an infectious enthusiasm for his job. He genuinely seemed to enjoy what he was doing, and his passion for providing exceptional customer service was evident in every interaction. He went above and beyond to accommodate any special requests and made sure we had an enjoyable dining experience.

Overall, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the skinny Spanish guy at Pizza Union. His dedication, professionalism, and friendly demeanor truly made our visit memorable. I highly recommend his impeccable service to anyone visiting Pizza Union. Keep up the...
