🎉 Five-Star Excellence – A Truly Magical Experience at Lucky Cat! đŸ±

We were celebrating my 9 year old daughter’s birthday, and she wanted sushi. Despite her age, she has traveled the world and dined at many Michelin star restaurants, so we thought Lucky Cat would satisfy her sushi craving on this special occasion. I truly feel that despite the food being satisfactory, we overplayed for the experience. We arrived to find our table not ready so were sat at a bar table and were handed drink menus, but no one came to greet us or so much as offer us water. After about 20 minutes, our table was ready. The dining room was beautiful and our table was set nicely. My daughter enjoyed the tiny gold cat where the chopsticks were set. Many tables remained empty after we were seated. The hostess asked if we would like water, and someone came to pour us 4 glasses promptly. After that, we couldn’t figure out who was going to attend to our table. Servers kept flying by our table avoiding eye contact with us. Another 20 minutes or so went by and we got the attention of what looked like the sommelier. He asked if we wanted wine and we said no, cocktails, he gave us a look of disappointment and said he would get someone. Finally without an introduction, a server came and asked if we were ready to order. We ordered cocktails and mocktails, which were delicious and refreshing. He returned to ask if we were ready to order food, so I went ahead and ordered all courses at once for the table even though the rest of the table had gone to the bathroom. Approximately 1 hour into our reservation time, we had received spicy edamame and GFC chicken for a table of 4. It felt like we had received rations. The chicken was great, as per the reviews, but the portion was small, about 2 bites each, and the edamame was bland and needed salt. After another 20 minutes, the server must have seen our distress and brought us cucumbers and pea guacamole to share on the house, since “the tray takes long to prepare.” These two were actually delicious and satisfying. Finally our Zanmai sushi tray arrived and had a delicious, fresh variety. The tuna in a leaf could be done better, too much cumin, but the flavors of the California roll and wagyu were spot on. As we finished the sushi tray, our order for short rib, pork belly and fried rice, which was prepared table side, arrived as well as a second bottle of water. At this point we were nearly 2 hours into our reservation time. The short rib (1 rib) was tender and delicious, but the sauce over it was reduced so much the salt was overwhelming. Removing the sauce and eating with rice helped. The pork belly was crispy and delicious. The rice was properly seasoned and had great flavor. It was my daughter’s birthday, which we had indicated on our reservation, but by this time we were so disappointed and tired we didn’t even want to get dessert. The server did hear me tell my daughter we would sing happy birthday at the hotel, and he arrived a short while later with a candle in a mochi donut hole. We got to sing happy birthday and she enjoyed the donut hole, which was a nice touch. We didn’t complain, as I am one to give every opportunity for redemption, but over all, I felt 408£ was overpriced for the service and wait time and food I could have gotten from any Asian fusion restaurant. And to rub salt in the wound, the table across from us had the servers hugging the diners and checking in frequently. So it was not for lack of effort for others, who must have been well known to the staff. I should have read the poor reviews thoroughly before deciding to go for the name and spending so much for a less than satisfactory experience.

Firstly can I note that we went on a Saturday evening and were sat on a table next to DJ and that the DJ may not be active during other evenings. We went for my birthday with my daughter and son in law,I've never been to any Gordon Ramsey restaurants but as we all love Asian food and the restaurant (Mayfair)is a short walk from my daughter and son in law's flat we thought it would be a great restaurant to try. The restaurant is beautiful inside as you would expect, when we arrived the security guard out front was the nicest person we encountered. Two ladies at front desk couldn't be bothered to greet us and left us standing awkwardly not sure what to do as it's not clear .Eventually they moodily took our coats and led us to a table ,said something to us but we were unable to hear as music was so loud . Upon looking at menu we realised quite quickly that there was literally no information about the dishes,I.e.does it come with sauce,is it vegetarian, and 3 of our party are vegetarian. The waiter eventually came and took our drink order and was so hoarse from shouting over music that we couldn't understand or hear him properly. After 25 minutes (I called him over twice but he kept putting us off to clear tables and get drinks to other people)he finally came to take order which was once again very difficult because of loud music,we asked a few questions about the food but he seemed to know nothing about the dishes apart from they were for sharing. All the vegetarian order came 20 minutes later but nothing for the meat eater. Our rice was missing.Food was mediocre and not hot, the smoked aubergine was inedible due to the chargrilled blackened skin being bitter and so hard it couldn't be chewed, most unpleasant. Nothing stood out and portions were tiny.20 minutes after the vegetarians were fed ,the meat bit came plus our rice which meant we just had rice to eat on it's own which was very strange it was also just warm and the waiter had to mix a raw egg in at table as it was egg fried rice and it is supposed to be a bit of a quitk to have it mixed in front of you.It had a nice taste but was warm so just rice with slime and weird to eat on it's own. Soon as my son in law had finished his food which to be fair(chicken and lamb)looked well cooked and he said it tasted nice,we asked for the bill and left as soon as we could feeling totally ripped off, hungry and so disappointed that the experience was so awful.I would never recommend it, I rarely write reviews and have never left a bad one but I feel that the waiter and staff we encountered were either not trained properly or didn't want to be there. No front of house person keeping an eye on things ( not visible anyway)and we eat out a lot and have been to all different restaurants and have honestly not had such a poor meal/experience. We were there at 730 and left at 9pm,I would have left 10 minutes after we arrived but was conscious that it was for my birthday and didn't want to upset my daughter. They are 25 and I'm 56 and they eat out all the time in and around Mayfair and they didn't enjoy it either. The only reason I gave it one star is because I love cats and there are lots of gold lucky cat ornaments dotted about. Sorry Gordon, you can dish it out but wonder if you can take criticism? Menu needs explanation, staff need adequate training, food needs to be hot and cooked well and your restaurant needs a present and dynamic Maitre 'D.Decor is beautiful but I'm afraid that's not enough I don't mind paying high prices but for what we had/experienced I feel that we have been totally ripped off.Oh also they had run out of Broccoli which is ridiculous as it's in season now! Save your money/time and avoid the Lucky Cat or possibly just go to the bar area for drinks as that doesn't...

Look for the warning signs early if you do go!!!!

Booked this for my girlfriend birthday, night started off ok we arrived for 6.30pm greeted by the staff. Sat down very quick.

Staff came over to explain the menu, and left us to then order. But as the music was so loud I couldn’t communicate with her, I felt like I was shouting the whole night.

Warning number 1 - as we went to order they were out of 1 of the dishes we wanted I believe it was the mackerel nigiri , only until after we ordered said ‘sorry we are out of this’ it would be nice to know just before we ordered so we could of looked for something else.

Anyway the night started well, first 3 dishes came out in good time at just before 7pm. Then that’s when it all stopped.

Warning 2 - it was 20/25minutes since our last dish, I ended up ordering another drink and my girlfriend ordered a starter snack to keep us going, thinking these last two dishes are taking longer to cook and we were hungry.

Warning 3 - I asked the staff could they check what’s happening as it’s now coming to 30minutes since our last dish (not included the edamame beans we ordered on top) she then went to ask 1 staff member who asked another, so ok I’m thinking it’s being sorted.

Warning 4 - The waiter who took our order came over and was just politely asked how everything thing was, to be fair I was getting annoyed as I have just reported missing food and he didn’t know. So I mentioned to him it’s been over 45minutes since ordering and we are waiting on 2 dishes. He headed to look like the kitchen,

Last warning- after all of this no one came back to us to let us know what was happening once. I understand they were busy but to be left in the dark is not good.

Nearly an hour into ordering and receiving our initial dishes we cancelled the last two dishes, but what annoyed me more was we had another waitress came over (who first explained the menu) and just said ‘don’t worry your food is coming’ this tipped me over the edge, I know it’s a little thing but she had no clue, she wasn’t interested in helping.

To be fair I think it was the GM who we asked to cancel our dishes, he did apologise.

I don’t know what happened, did the waiter forget to put the order through? did the kitchen forget to cook the food? We have no idea.

At the end we left hungry and spending the £69 on smaller dishes to leave and feel like we hadn’t ate, and me and my girlfriend always order dessert on date night. But being it was her birthday celebration to be left like this we weren’t happy.

We left roughly 8.15pm we ended up going straight home but still being hungry we ended up buying sandwich’s as we weren’t in the mood to look for another restaurant and wait around.

Overall, the food we had was ok, it would have been nice to have everything to give a proper review. But if you are going possibly book a quieter time as you may have...
