Extremely disappointing experience – not baby-friendly and poorly managed.
We made a phone reservation well in advance for six adults and one baby. During the call, we clearly stated that there would be a baby in our group. However, when we arrived at around 1:30 PM, we were told by staff that the restaurant only had two high chairs, and both were already in use.
What’s most frustrating is that the restaurant knew in advance that our 1:30 PM booking included a baby, yet made no arrangements to ensure a high chair would be available. They clearly chose to ignore the issue until it happened — and even then, no one actively tried to help or resolve the situation.
The staff kept saying “I’m sorry”, but made no effort whatsoever to find a solution. They didn’t offer to follow up, didn’t suggest any alternatives, and didn’t even seem to care. In fact, we were the ones who had to ask them whether they could borrow a high chair from a neighbouring restaurant — which is honestly ridiculous and shows a complete lack of basic service standards.
Eventually, another staff member checked with another table and gave us what they called a “high chair” — but it turned out to be a portable strap-on seat with no stable support. We were extremely concerned about our baby’s safety, and after he ate a quick meal, I had to hold my baby for the rest of the meal. The whole situation made the dining experience unnecessarily stressful and uncomfortable.
For a restaurant that takes bookings and claims to be family-friendly, having only two high chairs is unacceptable. But what’s worse is the lack of basic planning, communication, and accountability. Repeating “sorry” without any action is not service — it’s just a way to avoid responsibility.
We left feeling frustrated, unwelcome, and deeply disappointed. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone with young children. Families...
Read moreI came here 2-3 weeks ago with a group of friends when the restaurant had just opened and there was a 20% discount on everything...the food was good without really being markedly more delicious than 4 or 5 of the other Viet restaurants on Kingsland Road. If I could give 2.5 stars I would. Usually I couldn't care less about service-if the food is good enough, the plates can be flung at me and I'll definitely come back. The abrupt approaches to see if we wanted more drinks or anything else were kind of amusing and the miscounting/misplacing of money with the bill easily forgotten. Like the waiters the owner was a very friendly guy but it was awkward when he reeled off a 5 minute monologue about starting the place and its concept-he should really have realised that nothing was coming back from my group of friends and that we just wanted to be left in peace. But that can be 100% forgiven for passion for his new venture. What I can't ignore and what I found slightly insulting is that I seemed to be being told that the reasons that the portion sizes were small was for the good of my health. Eh? Really not why I eat out - I want to feel well-fed when I leave and get value. If I want to be greedy and fat that's my choice. If I get more food for my money next door and the quality is the same, I'm going next door. I hope that's constructive criticism for the owner(s) and the new business is a success...
Read moreIf I want Vietnamese food in London I usually go to my Mum’s house, but if I can’t make it there I go to Nom Nom Restaurant. I have been coming here for many years, since it was Loong Kee Cafe and in a single unit. Specifically for the Banh Cuon (Vietnamese steamed rice rolls) the pork and mushroom ones are my favourite thing on the menu, dipped in the flavourful nuoc cham dipping sauce. I generally eat 2 or 3 portions, with a side of Pak Choi in garlic sauce. If I am feeling extra hungry I will get the Bun Cha Han Noi (Noodle Salad) which light yet plentiful, perfectly grilled pork sitting on the vermicelli rice noodles, drenched in fish sauce. But if it is cold and I need something hearty, the classic beef pho hits the spot every time. Shout out to the freshly made Lemon and Kumquat drink, very refreshing and tastes like how Mum makes it. I love introducing my friends to NomNom, meat eaters and vegans alike. Both are well catered for. I am already craving more Banh Cuon as I write...
