It has been a few years since my last visit to Kingsland Road but I was not disappointed. We had for Starters: Fried pork and prawn spring rolls Honey marinated chargrilled pork belly slices Sesame prawn toast For Main Beef brisket and flank pho Spicy lemongrass brisket stewed in claypot The chargrilled pork belly was good. Cooked just right, juicy and tender. Not heavily marinated. The fried pork and prawn spring rolls had nice flavour and crispy. Only let down by the amount of oil in it. A bit more work to push the oil out and draining is needed but apart from that pretty acceptable The sesame prawn toast was a bit disappointed. There was not enough prawn paste, no prawn flavour and using baguette didn't really go well as toast. Their brisket and flanks pho was nice and reasonably portion. The soup flavour is just about right, not too blend and not too rich. The brisket and flanks were sliced to the right thickness, you often find in other places where they were sliced too thick so they become too chewy. The brisket stewed in claypot was nicely cooked. The beef was tender and the sauce with good flavour but it looks more like beef shin than brisket. Overall the experience was good and I will definitely go back and try other dishes.

Had this place recommended so been meaning to to come here for a while. From first impressions, looks good, smells great. Menu looks decent, and the service is friendly yet relaxed. Ordered an iced Viet coffee and a noodle salad. Unfortunately the coffee was rather disappointing; it tastes pretty bad, seems like instant coffee granules. While Viet coffee might be fairly rough before sweetener, this is so bitter that no amount of sweetened condensed milk can save it. The noodle salad came next, on a plate so a little tricky to mix, but a good selection of greens. Those greens could do with being washed properly though. Having little bugs on them is a bit off-putting. So picking through those carefully and mixing it all up, it tasted decent. Nice light crunch to the spring roll, and tender meat. I'd come back to try the phó on a colder day, but I would look carefully at the greens and not order the coffee again. A little disappointing overall but I wouldn't write the place off just yet, since the weak points could be easily improved.

So far the 2nd best Vietnamese food I've found in London, better flavour than some decent Viet restaurants in Vietnam and San Francisco. I asked the staff what was good and authentic, they helped with suggestions and it didn't disappoint. Essentially they also have picked chillies and garlic on the tables, give the proper amount of herbs with each dish, and use proper fish sauce (not too sweet!). The staff was so attentive, the service was very fast, and the food was a fair price, I wouldn't want to pay more or less, and I left totally satisfied. If I lived closer I'd be back again immediately to try some of their interesting dishes- including beautiful sounding soups- I spotted ingredients like crab, quails eggs, blood sausages and various interesting innards, which most Vietnamese restaurants don't make in my area!

I wish I could give a 0 star, I actually have no idea why this place got so many good reviews.

As an Asian, food wasn't impressed here at all. I ordered a clay pot aubergine with tofu dinner meal here... the problems were.. – the aubergine was close to raw, seriously they properly cooked it less than 3 minutes – the sauce was sooooo watery, almost like a soup, and the clay pot was cold. So they just cooked the dish in a wok and placed it into a clay pot as decoration. Not just mine, other 3 friends ordered clay pot too, same. I know quite a few restaurants are doing the same, but hate this kind of cheap trick. At least put the clay pot in fire for 1 min so it has the sizzling effect. – My friend ordered a curry in a clay pot, omg it was almost sweet like a dessert. – I'm vegetarian, my dish on the menu had a "V" sign, it also came with pickle, rice and vegetable soup. To double confirm, I asked the waitress if the meal was entirely vegetarian, because I know some Asian thinks as long as no meat it is vegetarian (fish sauce and oyster sauce everywhere). She said yes it was vegetarian. When the soup arrived, it tasted like fish, I asked my meat eater friend to taste, they all agreed "the vegetable soup" tasted fish. I asked the same waitress if the soup made by fish broth, she said "I have no clue (not even tried to find out from the kitchen), and she says "if" I didn't like the soup she could take it away with no charge... I asked her if she had any vegetarian soup option for replacement (my meal came with soup)? She said no, that is only soup they offer for the set meal. Hey!!!! I ordered a vegetarian meal, you gave me fish soup with a vegetable and told me that was the only option for my "vegetarian" meal? Goosh!!!!!!!!! – My other friend ordered a bowl for sharing, really... chased for like 5 times, took them 15mins to bring a bowl!!! – Service super slow in general – And we asked few questions or recommendation of the food, the staff really has no idea about they own food. – Very overprice... REALLY!! a Vietnamese "canteen" in Kingsland Road charges over £10 vermicelli salad, £6 for a small glass of wine and £3.8 for half a pint. I must say there are a lot better option with more reasonable price in Kingsland Road.

I must say I wont come back to this place ever and I wont recommend...

I used to love this restaurant but last night we had a very bad experience. The food was alright, but the service was terrible.

We arrived at around 9.30 pm and asked for a table. As we were a big group (7 people) they gave us a menu and asked us to wait outside for a few minutes (which turned out to be almost half an hour). Once we were seated, at 10 pm, they urged us to order fast cause they were closing at 11 pm. The waitress had a bad attitude, I had to remind her to bring a bottle of water and the second time she didn’t even look at me while I was talking or even bothered to reply. The glasses took forever to come cause they were literally washing them in the sink in front of our eyes, and I was feeling super dizzy because of how hot the place was (they turned off the AC as soon as we got seated, probably to kick us out soon).

At 10.30pm they told us again that they were closing at 11 pm but now they added that they needed 15 mins to clean. So they left the bill on the table while we still had more than half of the food on our plates.

Obviously, we asked them to remove the service charge as they just didn’t deserve it, and she told us she had to check with her manager if that was possible. After that, she asked for the reason why we didn’t wanna pay for it. I mean, pardon me? We have no obligation of paying for a horrible service, plus they also didn’t allow us to split the bill into more than 3 payments, which was super annoying as well.

Overall, a super bad experience that embarrassed me in front of my friends, as I was the one who convinced them to go here. Won’t be recommending it or coming back either, I’m sure that there are better Vietnamese restaurants in Shoreditch, or at least with a...

Tasty starters, mediocre mains and inexcusable treatment by a staff member over a confusion on the menu.

We asked specifically if the Rare Beef Pho, came with rare beef and told yes, together with an accompanying eye roll and "Of course it does it's written on the menu".

We ignore the patronising response and ordered. When it arrived it was thin, very well cooked and chewy slithers of beef. Not what we ordered and not what he said it would be.

When we highlighted this him, he got uptight and explained they can't serve raw or uncooked meat due to food safety. This is understandable but there's several issues with this: Rare beef doesn't mean raw and when it's on the menu you expect it to be rare to some degree, much like you do in steak restaurants or for roasts. This beef it was far from rare - it was extremely well done poor quality meat. When we explained that we're not asking for raw or uncooked food but rare like the menu said he rolled is eyes and kept angrily repeating what he said. When we suggested that if he had explained that when we asked at the point of ordering we wouldn't have ordered it and got something else he continue to talk over us with his same response but then suggested he's not psychic (??) so how would he know what wanted and rolled his eyes again.

We were polite throughout the whole discussion, he was not. His rolling of eyes and rude responses were completely unnecessary and his patronising behaviour unforgiveable. This would have been easily solved if he'd acknowledge the misunderstanding and we'd been able to swap the meal. Sadly, he just told me we were going round in circles and walked off in a huff and then had the balls to charge us for the meal that...
