I checked out the New Popeye's that's just opened up in Romford. The fast food fried chicken chain famous in the US. They have a location that opened Stratford but I've actually never been to that.

I visited yesterday and it was the first day. I was impressed with the customer service, they seemed to go out of their way to make sure everyone had a good experience.

Food wise its more pricer than kfc but the food definitely is of a better standard.

I definitely recommend the spicy chicken deluxe burger. It as a massive tender and juicy bit of chicken. The breading was crunchy, thick and packed full of flavour. I'd go back for that. Really good chicken burger.

Also got a chicken sandwich, which was good but didn't compare to the deluxe burger.

I ordered some signature 3 peice of chicken (the girl out the tills made a mistake and gave me tenders) they fixed this error very quickly and didn't charge me for the chicken I wanted and I kept the tenders. Bosd man gave me 4 peices as well.

I thought the tenders were great and worth getting. I was surprised with the size of the chicken drums, it almost looked like a wing or maybe a baby chicken. Tasted good nevertheless, I really like the crunchy texture of the chicken here.

The milkshakes and fries are good as well. No complaints with the food or service here, food came out within 10mins. If you are local Romford definitely check this spot out.

Good fried chicken, will definitely be coming back here. You can choose between 2 different batter coatings for your chicken: original or spicy. Original was a bit under-seasoned for me, but spicy was absolutely delicious, so I’d definitely opt for that in the future. The chicken was very succulent, fresh and juicy. Highly recommend the chicken strips! Cajun fries were very tasty, although the large portion (in the picture below) is a bit smaller than I expected. Really enjoyed the deluxe chicken burger, very tasty sauce in the burger and the gherkins were nicely pickled. Mac & cheese was gross - tasted very bland & artificial, would not recommend ordering that. Mango habanero & ranch dipping sauces were great, will definitely recommend & order those again. Got the Oreo milkshake, which was okay but it wasn’t blended properly because all the Oreo chunks were too big for the straw and had sunk to the bottom, so once I finished the liquid, I ate the Oreo chunks at the bottom with a spoon; actual milkshake was also quite runny/thin. Spent about £30 on all the food pictured, which was more than enough for 2 of us. Restaurant was clean, plenty of seating, and service was very good. When you order on the electronic self service machines, you can select table service which I really liked; the food was bought out fairly quickly considering how...

Finally had a chance to try Popeyes. Their Stratford branch always had a queue and reviews were rather low so I'm glad they opened a branch in Romford which is less busy and appears to be better from what I can tell in the reviews.

We had to try the biscuit with the gravy, along with the burger, 2 piece and the milkshake.

Wasn't expecting much for the biscuit but the light savoury-ness of it made it suit the meal more than I expected. Wasn't a fan of the Cajun gravy - the smoky/paprika flavour was too much for me personally. The fried chicken was perfect in terms of doneness and texture though - chicken breast was to my surprise succulent and not dry at all. We ended up only getting mild but think the hot/spicy version would have been even better. The drumstick I got was rather tiny though. Milkshake was decent although looked very plain.

I am however only giving 4 stars as the tables were a bit dirty. I understand it's still a fast food joint and you get what you pay for but it wasn't much cleaner than a McDs or KFC from what I experienced on that visit.

We thankfully didn't really have to queue though - we were able to use the machine to order to table and it was brought out to us...
