If you are visiting London then this place is a must for true, fresh and delicious English fish and chips or pies.
My husband who is American, our friend who is from Australia and myself visited this Pub after a long 8 hour day of sightseeing.
We all are super happy we came across this place as withing it was holding a secret in a form of a delicious surprise.
I ordered Fish and Chips, Standard right??? Not really… I must have had at least a 100 Fish and Chips meals in my life from all over the U.K. Coast, North, South, East and a few in London.
I kidding you not when I say that this WAS the BEST fish and chips I ever had. It was a bit shocking to me as I did not expect this at all. London was holding out in a secret, a delicious suprise. I truly got PUNCHED in the face. Wow AMAZING.
Fish was super fresh, no smell, Pearl white, flaky and extra tasty. The butter was fantastic, golden brown, crunchy but not too much, just perfect. Chips were also great. Nice and chunky, for sure triple cooked and served hot. I still can’t believe that I had the best fish and chips at a random pub we stumbled upon while in London.
My friend from Australia had a pie and you could tell it was made fresh right there. It looked scrumptious and my friend absolutly enjoyed it.
My husband on the other hand had a chicken burger and he loved it.
All thou both of them enjoyed their meals they had to have a try of my fish. Both were as stunned as I was.
Even thou they liked their dishes very much. They both said “damn, I should have gotten the fish” Sorry, a small taste is all you get…
The decore of the place is true Victorian pub like and the place is very clean including the bathrooms. Lovely true British pub atmosphere.
The staff now,.. let me tell you. PHENOMENAL. We were served by a girls from Poland who spoke great English was super friendly and professional and you could tell that she can multitask which is important in her industry. She served us with a smile and answered any questions we had in regards to the food. You could tell that she truly loves her job.
I am a General Manager of a hotel with a degree in Hospitality and Tourism from California State University and 23 years working in this field. I would absolutly hire this girl if she ever chose to apply for a position at my property. She is a true asset. I hope the owners and Managment know this, and she is well rewarded for her famtastic customer service, knowledge, hard work and commitment to perfection. In current times where good hospitality employees are hard to come by. I think any pub, restaurant or hotel would be lucky to have her. If she ever chose to move to Manchester, I hope she applies at my hotel by some string of luck. I would love to have an employee like this join my team. Absolutly a true asset. Better yet, a true gem.
Overall the experience here was fantastic. Service was phenomenal and food was fresh and delicious. If you are a tourist in London ajd you want to try what a good and real English fish and chips tastes like, then this is the place to go. The location is pretty central but even if you have to take a walk or the tube. It is WELL worth it.
This is the only place I will recommend to my friends or family whom are visiting the big city.
Thank you for a delicious meal and famtastic...
Read moreComfortable Fleet Street pub offering an expansive collection of gin and servers willing to take the extra time to help novices navigate which one to choose. Cash, credit card and probably e-wallet payments accepted. Weeknight was busy up until about 9pm. It's also a stop for a local gin tour which takes up a few tables starting around 9:30pm.
100+ gins but light on other liquors. Preset menu of cocktails featuring whisky, vodka, etc. and willing to try and accommodate off-menu requests but no guarantee. Great help in determining which gins to sample to get a better appreciation of this liquor enjoying a Renaissance around the world.
Decor is suitably dark wood and comfortable booths and chairs around small tables. Lots of suits after work giving way to more and more casual dress later on. Everyone is welcome, though, even tourists. Restrooms are reached via a set of stairs down immediately behind the bar.
Food options are fairly typical for pubs. Fish & chips, chips, burgers, but also grilled salmon, a weekly meat pie option, and a vegetarian poke bowl. Food is all tasty enough to enjoy your time and your drinks here. Prices are relatively typical.
Would definitely come here again, and highly recommended if you're a gin connoisseur. They also have private areas separated from the main bar area you can rent out for dinner parties and...
Read moreOne of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had in a long time.
Upon arrival, I enquired about gluten-free options and I was informed that my choices were limited to either steak and chips or a salad. Opting for what seemed like the heartier option, I selected the steak and chips.
To my dismay, when the dish arrived, it fell far short of expectations. The (badly cooked) steak was accompanied by a meager and withered salad, with no sign of the promised chips or any sauce. Bewildered, I questioned the staff about the discrepancy, only to be told that chips and sauce contained gluten.
What baffled me even more was the fact that the dish had been marked as entirely gluten-free in their allergen folder. When I pointed out this inconsistency, the response I received was far from satisfactory. The staff member brushed off their responsibility, stating, "I’m not responsible for the allergen sheet." This blatant disregard for accountability and customer satisfaction is nothing short of unprofessional.
Aside from my nightmare of a dish, the quality of the food itself left much to be desired. Even my colleagues, who ate regular meals, found the food to be mediocre at best.
In conclusion, our experience was marred by incompetence, indifference, and subpar...
