I had heard about Scalini's when I worked in the City and since my previously favourite Italian restaurant, "Montpeliano", had closed down because of COVID-19 I thought I'd would take my good friends who were staying with us on a visit from Holland here instead. Obviously I had high expectations but sadly these were totally misplaced! We arrived on time at 7pm and I was surprised at the total lack of warmth, the "friendly welcome" was non-existent, with in fact I got the impression that we were an inconvenience! The greeting from the Maitre D was by way of a growl and we weren't asked if there was somewhere we would like to sit but directed to a small table "out of the way" and, instead of a waiter pulling the chair out for us to take our seat, we were ushered into the corner and told "you're sitting here"! The meal was OK but nothing "special", the wine list was extensive but clearly geared towards the most expensive and, like the food, MASSIVELY overpriced. There were two particular things that really annoyed me - firstly as we sat down I politely asked the (I think) assistant Maitre D where he was from (I always do this with restaurant staff, partly out of pure curiosity but also to "break the ice") and was met with the rude reply "That's for me to know and you to find out" (on reflection I should have walked out there & then) and secondly that when we had finished dining and had ordered coffee we weren't offered a small "something on the house" (a limoncello or similar) which, given that our bill was well in excess of £300, I would have thought an appropriate gesture to "new customers" as is the way in virtually every Italian restaurant I visit. When presented with the Bill I requested that the "Optional Gratuity" (12.5%) be removed as a small protest which was met with dismay and almost anger. We left and stood on the pavement outside waiting for a cab and then, to my shock, the Head Waiter came outside and confronted me, asking what was wrong and why had I not paid a "Tip". I had a great deal of pleasure in telling him "That's for me to know and you to find out"! Essentially an experience I would not wish to repeat, and so, regrettably, I cannot give "Scalini's" anything other than an "AVOID" recommendation. Honestly, a very great...

I have been coming to Scalini for years. Yesterday, I booked a reservation at 9:30 under my name for my best friend’s birthday. We were two ladies, who were really looking forward to having dinner together. Very pleased to find out you had redone the entire restaurant. At our arrival we asked for a bottle of wine. The bottle of wine arrived, we tried it, did not like it and were forced to have it. The waiter said “Sorry but the bottle of wine is good, it’s not bad, so I will have to charge you for it”. To which my friend answered “No problem we would like a different bottle of wine”. I then said “Excuse me, but what is the point of trying a bottle of wine if we cannot change it?” Anyways, I asked to speak to the manager who was then even less qualified with his words. Extremely aggressive, insisting that he cannot do anything and now that the bottle is open we have to pay for it. I have never seen a restaurant like this in my life. My friend left cash on the table we quickly left to Daphne’s who had an impeccable service. The waitress there served us with really great wine and said “If you do not like it I can change it.” Without us even mentioning anything. The burrata there wasn’t at our expectation and was removed from our bill and the staff there was smiley, kind and very welcoming. We truly do recommend you take example on them. Of course, Scalini is a London classic, but do trust that when the service is disgusting, word of mouth is stronger than reputation. We were extremely disappointed considering that we were really looking towards the food. Thank goodness, there are amazing Italian restaurant just around the corner such as Daphne’s and Signor Sassi. We will most definitely let everyone around us know that it is no surprise if you step into Scalini and they are extremely stingy and unwelcoming. It was embarrassing to sit for less than 10 minutes and be treated like a 5am kebab.
We will not be coming back, but do take our feedback to re-educate your staff because it was just...

The food at Scalini is nothing short of fantastic. With a menu showcasing the best of Italian cuisine, each dish is a delightful masterpiece of flavors. From mouthwatering pasta dishes to delectable seafood options, the culinary offerings are sure to please even the most discerning palate.
Additionally, I have some personal recommendations for dishes that truly stood out during my visit to Scalini:
Bresaola & Ricotta: For cheese and beef enthusiasts, the Bresaola & Ricotta dish is an absolute must-try. The combination of tender, thinly sliced bresaola and creamy ricotta creates a delectable harmony of flavors. Each bite is a delightful symphony of savory and creamy goodness that will leave you craving more.
Fettuccine Al Ragu Bianco & Tartufo Nero: If you're a fan of pasta dishes, I highly recommend indulging in the Fettuccine Al Ragu Bianco & Tartufo Nero. The homemade fettuccine, perfectly cooked to al dente perfection, is smothered in a luscious white ragu sauce. The addition of fragrant black truffles adds an earthy and luxurious touch, elevating this classic dish to new heights of culinary delight.
Gamberoni Fra Diavola: For seafood lovers with a taste for a little heat, the Gamberoni Fra Diavola is a stellar choice. Succulent jumbo prawns are cooked to perfection in a spicy tomato-based sauce that balances fiery flavors with a hint of sweetness. The combination of tender prawns and bold, zesty sauce creates a tantalizing experience that will awaken...
