Visited for Sunday lunch. Had drinks in basement bar first. Okay but no ice bucket for our Prosecco which was poured and then rest of bottle never reappeared (they did refund this though when we raised the issue). Music really loud and light dimmed like for a Friday night (this was early Sunday lunchtime) creating strange atmosphere. Given table for lunch in upstairs restaurant that was far too cramped for five people. No room for plates, serving dishes, glasses etc. Moved ourselves to bigger table after starters. Service was friendly and helpful but shambolic. Not enough staff covering the restaurant. The restaurant itself lacked atmosphere. One big blank wall with art propped against an adjacent wall. The only toilets are downstairs in the basement bar. One male toilet only which had no hand soap during the four hours of our visit (were the male staff using this toilet too if so, ugh!). Some food (carrots) missing from the plates when compared to the menu and one strip of carrot each on the plates that had them. Were given more when we asked though. Roast lunches only lukewarm on arrival. They didn’t have any magnums of Prosecco left, and none of the first two bottles of wine we chose. Were charged £7.50 for one scoop of ice cream when advertised as £2.50 per scoop. Again, rectified as soon as we raised it but obviously we shouldn’t need to have kept pointing out the issues. Our bill came to nearly £450 so sadly wasn’t value for money or the slick experience we’d hoped for. We won’t be back until we hear about major changes...
Read moreNeither a restaurant, nor a proper pub - but definitely a rip-off at 35 pounds for a burger and a pint of Guiness - and the bun was not even toasted so that it fell apart while eating. No real privacy at all as all tables seem to be facing the front of the house like a living room, and sofas/chairs have a wrong height in relation to the tables, making it difficult to eat. Food was mediocre. Plenty of staff who seem to be hanging out and chatting and joking at the bar but not doing much work or proactively solving problems like finding a seating or preparing tables. They don't seem to know much about food being served, either (the waitress didn't even know there was such a thing as Sunday roast that could be served on a Sunday evening, let alone what was in it). I couldn't really understand the point of having so many servers whose only task was to lead customer to a table and bring a plate of food/drink. Maybe if the light was dimmed at least you wouldn't see how badly painted the walls were and how much the kitsch chintz lying around was trying to make it 'quirky' and 'fun'. Only went there because Bunch of Grapes was full....
Read moreUpdate to review from yesterday…. After dinner, my wife went back to the hotel around the corner while I finished up my drink. She texted me to say her stomach feels queasy and then had to immediately sit on the toilet with bad diarrhea. I told her I felt fine but no sooner had I walked the 5 minutes to the hotel and I too had an explosion of diarrhea. The food had tasted good but we both believe it was the fish because I ate half of hers and I suffered for 3 days. I’m not kidding, it was worse than the stuff they give you the night before a colonoscopy! So sad to write this because I enjoyed my visits but there’s no doubt something was very wrong with something we ate. I will email the manager tomorrow to let him know.
Initial review posted while I sat in the bar/restaurant…….Stayed in a nearby hotel so visited The Beauchamp twice for drinks and once for dinner. The staff were very hospitable and I especially enjoyed meeting and conversing with Eranda. I will surely miss her! Food was good, service was outstanding. Thankyou for making this American...
