I came for Sherlock, had lunch because of the reviews, stayed for the lovely ambience and returned for another delightful brunch.
Speedy’s became my favourite spot in London during my short stay in the city. I dare saying the Sherlock Show had been filmed here so the staff could eat their dishes during the production. While I struggled to choose from the options, I was quickly served with a cup of tea. Under the staff’s recommendation, I chose the “Sherlock Breakfast” — with a well served portion of smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, fresh tomato slices, avocado and mushrooms. Before leaving, I also had a slice of lemon cake, perfectly fluffy and tasty with my cup of tea.
I returned a second time before leaving London and I was received just as warmly as before. This once, I tried a Smoked Salmon sandwich menu, which was an amazing deal not only for the price, but by the quality delivered.
For the fans of Sherlock, I believe this is a must stop during your time in London. The pictures on the walls give a glimpse of the memories from the production days, and to eat where the characters did certainly is an experience to remember. The music and the mint panelling are also such charming details!
In the rare occasion the restaurant finds itself slightly more empty, I would also recommend having a chat with the staff. Speedy’s has been around for over 40 years, and their passion for this house is what truly makes it into what it is now.
It does get quite crowded during the lunch times since it’s well located next to the Euston Square Station and the university hospital, but if you are willing to share the table during the peak hours, you might be able to stay for a while longer with your cup of tea and dessert.
I hope to come back soon to London, and I will make sure to return...
Read moreLike many others I visited because I'm a Sherlock fan - I didn't really expect great food, or a reasonable price. I signed up for a shrimp salad sandwich, however, and it was absolutely excellent. To sit at a table outside next to 221B was like magic for me all by itself - to sit there while having such a great tasting sandwich at a price that didn't make me wince made it perfect. The fact that I'd been used to American prices at the time and was wincing over most bills in London should indicate how great the price was. The fact I was so distracted as a fan and still noticed how much I was enjoying the sandwich should indicate just how good of a sandwich it was. To top it all off, the owner was lovely - he was happy to listen to me ask Sherlock questions even though he must get this ad nauseum, and directed my attention to a wall inside the cafe where he had photos of the actors at the location.
I've visited a lot of London attractions now and sat in a lot of tourist cafes - but the experience I had here is more memorable to me than all of them. If you're a BBC Sherlock fan, it's the best tourist experience you can have in the city. If you're not, this cafe still deserves all the awards for offering great food using good quality ingredients at a really good price. Thank you Speedys - I wear your...

A typical back street London caf feel and appears used by local workers as well as the tourist.
Handsome guy behind sandwich bar with cheeky smile is welcoming and efficient .
Sadly, his older lady assistant has poor English and so presents brusk and unfriendly .
A larger group came in and I was made (rather than asked ) to move table mid meal which I didn't like . This happened again and two woman on adjacent table were moved to accommodate a larger group in the middle of their meal . The serving lady would benefit from attending an updated catering hygiene procedures course too to help her practice. She actioned everything with the same gloves on from handling food to dealing with money to hugging her friends. Further, her cloth was cross contaminating around the cafe, table to sandwich bar and not a hint of antibacterial cleaner.
However, this wasn't a negative experience and did the breakfast job . It's important to support small businesses . With some attention to standard catering cleanliness and customer focused service, this place...
