A Hidden Gem in Richmond – Tangawizi Delivers Elegance and Heart
From the moment we stepped into Tangawizi Indian Restaurant, we knew we were in for something special. This isn’t just the best Indian restaurant in Richmond — it’s an experience that blends elegance, authenticity, and genuine hospitality in the most delightful way.
The service felt incredibly personal. We truly loved the warm table chats, and it was clear that every member of the team was genuinely interested in our comfort and needs. It’s rare to find that kind of care and attention these days, and it made our evening feel intimate and memorable.
Tangawizi has been a standout since its opening in 2004 — even clinching the prestigious Michelin Bib Gourmand Award in its very first year — and it’s easy to see why. The atmosphere is vibrant yet refined, with traditionally dressed staff adding to the authentic charm. The food? Absolutely exceptional. Every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor, reflecting both tradition and culinary finesse.
Whether you’re a local or visiting Richmond, Tangawizi is a must-visit. It’s more than just a restaurant — it’s a celebration of Indian cuisine, served with warmth, elegance, and a personal touch that makes all the difference. Not forgetting the ability to park right outside...
Read moreWe decided to order the pani puri off the street food menu and based off of that the street food menu seems to be amazing. We had never tried it before but based on our previous knowledge it hit all the elements of a good panipuri. Having a lot of flavour and the perfect amount of spice. Unfortunately the masala liptey chicken was the complete opposite. This dish lacked flavour, spice, and had way too much cream. Thankfully it didn’t have sugar in it but the proportions of each ingredient made it a bit sickening to eat. We also ordered the mutter paneer. I have always been a huge a fan of mutter paneer so was incredibly excited to try it from our local Indian. However similar to the masala liptey, the sauce lacked flavour. The paneer itself was good quality however the curries sauce was almost flavourless apart from the overwhelming taste of tomato purée. Overall we are saddened to say our experience was disappointing. When picking up the food the staff were incredibly kind and talkative. They held a friendly conversation whilst we were waiting for our food and offered us complementary chocolates and popadoms. The staff were amazing but the food was not. We wanted to write this review not to put people off the restaurant but to give feedback to the...
Read moreI worked in London for about two years and was staying near Tangawizi. I ate there a couple times a week many many times over that two year time frame. I absolutely love it there. The food is phenomenal and always has the highest quality ingredients. The service is exceptional as well.
Eight years later, we returned to the UK for my 60th birthday and I wanted to visit them again due to the fond memories I had. Our dinner this evening was just as phenomenal as ever. The flavors and freshness of the ingredients was incredible. The King tandoori shrimp are a favorite of mine and I literally got another order for dessert rather than a normal dessert. They thought I was joking when I ordered it for dessert!
I travel frequently for business and have had the opportunity to eat at many phenomenal restaurants and they are at the top of the list with the best!
I’m so happy they made it through the pandemic and now celebrating 20 years. I would highly...
