COOKING the BILL, AMNEASIC SEASONING and LIES are the ingredients of this Thai restaurant.
We went last Saturday (7 Dec ) for a meal. The food was average and quite sweet though. The waiters Nancy and the slim young guy were helpful coupled with the most important fact it is a stone throw from our house so my wife decided to book a table for Thursday for an anniversary celebration. The manager asked for a deposit to book a table (£80) which was quite unusual as one can book a large table for free online. We did not want to make a fuss so we paid up the deposit of £80.
LIE & CHEATING No 1:
We came back on Thursday (12 Dec). We were led to our table by a charming waitress who reminded us of the happy hour for cocktails before 8pm. However, the manager who took our drinks order stated the happy hour is well over - I reminded him about the 8pm deadline to which there was no apology for his mistake. He then cheated on the bill (which we discovered the day after) that he boosted up the cocktail price by 50% extra by Cooking the Bill.
AMNEASIC SEASONING, CHEATING and COOK further the Bill:
At the end of the meal, the bill came and to our disbelief the bill did not minus our deposit of £80 we paid previously to 'book' the table. My wife went to speak to the waiter who offered no apology though we clearly pointed out to him what type of booking system you have that does not show such important matters. Fortunately, we had our credit card deposit voucher as proof at hand to show. The Manager (remember him on lie and cook the happy hour bill) had prepared the bill himself (and therefore cook further the bill) and shouted to the waiter across the reception desk to end quickly our conversation.
CHEATING:
There is a discretionary charge of 12.5% which is not discretionary as you are forced to pay the charge by the Managers (Manager Ken on Saturday 7 Dec insisted to). Can someone at Thai Square check the definition of discretionary in a dictionary!
The whole experience left a sour taste in our mouth and in some respects spoilt our anniversary celebration. Despite the average food, the bill is cooked upwards and false information is given so that you pay more unnecessarily - most likely to make up for the numerous empty tables there! We have voted with our feet and will spread the word to...
Read moreWent to Thai Square in Putney last night for a friend’s birthday- biggest regret of the night. We sat at the bar for approximately 40 minutes before going up to our table. At this time, there were no waiters available so we were unable to utilise the 2for1 cocktail offer, even though we wanted to. We were seated at approximately 7.30pm, and again no waiters came to our table to take our drinks orders. They actually (tactfully) only came to serve our table at 8.05pm (when the offer had ended). This was quite surprising as we were a large group of diners and the rest of the restaurant was empty.
Another thing we were angry about was having the set menu forced upon us, when we) were not warned about this when we placed our deposits. The set menu was expensive (£32 pp), when challenged the restaurant manager said he would talk to the person who made our booking, but quickly took his words back (probably realising that this was the only money they were going to make this night). We regretfully accepted in order to not ruin my friends birthday celebration.
The food was at a really poor standard. I had ordered the vegetarian set menu, and even though the starters were decent, the cashew tofu curry main was tasteless and cold. It also mentioned that the meal would served with jasmine rice, however this was just boiled rice. It was also meant to come with vegetables on the side with broccoli which smelled of fish, so I was unable to eat it. The restaurant also tried to be cheeky and not bring out the soup which was included in the vegetarian set menu, and when questioned about it they said it was not included, until I showed them a picture of the menu I had taken on my phone. This was then brought out in 5 minutes (obviously not fresh), with uncooked vegetables thrown into a thai green curry sauce. I do not call this a soup.
To top things off they tried to charge the entire table with additional set menus, which luckily we checked (again there was some tension here before they accepted and took this meal off).
To summarise, lovely location and interior, and that’s about it. Poor quality food, rude staff (especially the manager) and sly pricing. I would...
Read moreAfter having a great Valentines meal at Thai Square Fulham 2015 I decided to take my wife to this one in 2016 but oh boy what a big mistake & big difference in restaurants. Firstly on arrival instead of a nice greeting I found the lady on the door very rude stating even though they can see my reservation I had not payed a deposit so I stated it did not request I did so when making the booking or I would have done so but if it is a problem I can pay now. Secondly even with a set Valentines Menu we were kept waiting nearly 40 minutes for our food to come out so by now my wife was not impressed. The final insult was when the food did eventually come out it was luke warm & tasted like a ready meal out of a supermarket (not fresh at all) so as much as we were so hungry I really couldn't eat any of it. My wife & I polite as usual didn't want to cause a fuss so didn't mention anything to them and just requested the bill & left but with this review if I can save any other couple from their Valentines night being ruined by going here then it will be worth while. Im really sorry to say apart from the restaurant location in view of the river there's really nothing positive I can say. By the way this review was meant to be written one year ago but it's only because Im now making plans where to go for Valentines 2017 I just remembered where I...
