The. Dorchester. Rooftop.
Sounds a very nice idea for a late summer diner to go at the rooftop of the home of Ducasse in London. My favorite restaurant in the city. Surely the rooftop must be amazing in the home of culinary excellence.
The rooftop menu looks inspiring with reference to cuisine nicoise such as socca and pissaladière. I'm excited to go.
8.30pm we arrive at the Rooftop. It's a roof yes. On top of a building with a view on the cars going down Park lane. Old and imbalanced garden furnitures have been put there in order to make a restaurant. There is a DJ. The playlist is on par with any cheap cocktail bar in Costa del Sol.
Let's have a look at the menu. Socca it is and pissaladière and burrata. All are very easy to do. All were a massive fail. To the chef: Socca must be crunchy (check Pino in Nice) Pissaladière isn't pizza crust with onions. If you want to taste a perfect one I'd recommend LPM's one. Main: £130 chicken for 2. That's a chicken... Again check LPM's one. At least there is foie gras in it.
Now the service... Water bottle spilled twice on the table. Done. 3 clueless waiters checking the level of our wine bottle though the light within 3 minutes. Check.
Only help came from the maitre d'. who obviously knows his job and seems to be here to offset the Brexit consequences and the inability of the hospitality industry to hire anyone competent.
All in all a very...

Managed to be seated at a table inside. Was very impressed by the extensive knowledge of the staff and loved hearing about the history of the venue, such as the fact it used to be a suite at the hotel. The warm cookie was very generous in portion size and tasted delicious. I would return especially for dessert! The cocktails looked very special too, and the live music really supported the atmosphere. The nuts were a great touch. Lacked a lot of vegetarian mains on the menu beyond...

This evening will remain in our memories for a very, very long time. Sitting on the rooftop of the dorchester, enjoying the sunset and "take that" playing live in Hyde Park in the background - a very special setting. But what made the evening so special was the hospitality that we were able to enjoy from Sophie and her team. Many, many thanks for that!! That must be what is called "unreasonable hospitality"....
