Claridges has always been a place I have visited for breakfast every time I’m in London and historically I would have argued it was the best breakfast in London. However, with their recent change in chef the quality has taken a nose dive. Claridges has always had a wide and diverse menu however this time it was much more limited. I ordered the waffles and my partner order the avocado toast. The food came out almost immediately which we were at first delighted by. But, once I began to eat the waffles, I realized that being this quick wasn’t necessarily good. The waffles where dry and luke warm - they had the exact consistency as frozen toaster waffles that had just been reheated. My partners avocado toast was £22 and for that I expected the quality normally associated with the Claridges name. However what was presented was one soggy piece of toast with a bit of avocado slapped on top and couple runny poached eggs. Not indicative of the quality or presentation that I would expect for that price or for the name. After I did raise these points the waiter did make his very best effort to help however given how poor the meal had been I was more interested in just paying and carrying on with our day. I also made sure to say that I was willing to pay the full price as I just wanted my next experience at Claridges to be better. I did not want to make it sound like I was just trying to create issues however it was clear the manager just wanted us out so instead of taking any feedback he just came over with the credit card machine removed the cost of the waffles and proceeded to tell me this was the normal Claridges standard. He quickly had me pay the bill and it felt like we were just being pressured out. If this is the Claridges standard then they deserve to lose a star or two but if it is not and they improve I will be happy to return but only if the quality that once...
Read moreWhen we decided to come to London last month we wanted to try all the quintessential British things we could. So an afternoon tea at a classic and classy place had to be.
We decided on the Claridges, for one reason only, the no requirement for a dress code as we were coming from a Egypt Holiday and didnt wanted to carry fancy clothes all the way in that holiday.
I am really glad we decided on the Claridges. You feel like royalty as they take you to your table, the waiter assigned to us changed from a friendly but inexperienced lady at first, to a genuine superstar gentleman afterwards.
It is all an experience and has to be done. The food was exquisit, excellent sandwiches, which we repeated, very good pastries and sweets and amazing teas. The scones were just scrumptious and the clotted cream and jam were simply amazing.
We tried six different teas instead of the supposed three as our waiter just wanted us to experienced it all! He was amazing, and I'm sorry that I don't recall his name, but he was awesome really.
At the end he insisted we took a box of scones and a box of sandwiches (which sadly were "confiscated" at the entrance for Les Mis). We thoroughly enjoyed our Royal experience and recommend...
Read moreA friend and I had afternoon tea here last week and we were NOT disappointed. The room itself is beautiful, there was live piano music accompanied by violin, and each and every employee and server we interacted with was welcoming, kind, and helpful. We had a reservation and were seated immediately upon arrival. It’s not cheap, but the food is exquisite, with various sandwiches, fresh scones, and cakes. Our server brought out an additional try of sandwiches as well as another pot of tea. At the end, we were so full that we couldn’t finish most of the cakes and she happily boxed up the remaining cakes AND gave us an additional box of fresh scones and jars of jam. I didn’t want to go somewhere "stuffy" and feel out of place if I wasn’t super dressed up, and this was perfect, as people were dressed in everything from a zip up hoodie to a jacket and tie. I was very happy with our experience here and would certainly...
