🚇Earls Court 🍺 £5.85 Amstel ❤️ A relaxing backstreet Fullers pub with a claim to fame. . Nested amongst pastel painted houses in the backstreets of Earls Court you’ll find The Kings Head. The nearest tube is Earls Court, make sure you walk down the atmospheric Hogarth Place alleyway to get here. . There has been a pub on this site since the 17th century which makes this pub the oldest surviving licensed premises in the area, the current building was built in 1937. . During the late 1950s and early 60s, the pub was extremely popular with Australians who settled in the Earl’s Court area. Given Australians love for cold beer, it came as something of a disappointment that no pubs in England seemed to serve such a thing! The King’s Head therefore became one of the first pubs in the country to offer beer served cold. . This is a good size one bar pub with an upstairs dining room. The decor here is traditional with buttoned leather banquette seating, poser tables, beautiful oak fireplace and a stunning servery. . This is a @fullers pub which had an impressive tap list with an emphasis on Craft Beers plus five casks were available. I decided on a pint of Amstel, my pint was well kept and very enjoyable, price point was good at under six quid. The food menu is hearty British fayre, Fish & Chips costs £17.15. . I arrived around 2pm on a Saturday and the pub had a relaxed lunchtime feel. The pub wasn’t overly busy with two different groups of tourists in and a funny local old boy who was very entertaining. He was chatting to a group of French lads showcasing his skills of the French language. Every time they asked him a question he would simply reply “au revoir, au revoir” move over Delboy. The service was great, the lady who served me was courteous and all smiles. There is entertainment on throughout the month featuring live music and quiz nights. . The @kingsheadsw5 was a great visit and I loved the setting. It’s an elegant 1930’s pub which is easy to settle in to. The beer choice was over and above Fullers usual offering and there’s plenty of pub grub on offer. Definitely worth a visit this one. . ℹ️ Info correct on...
Read moreGiven we'd booked a table for 4 people, on arrival we were pointed to a table that could sit 3, 4 if you were happy to have the "bouncer on the door" sat on your lap; therefore a strange mercy that one of our group was unable to join us in the end. Having ordered food, we were then informed of the items unavailable (thankfully nothing we had chosen, but surely more sensible to advise customers of this before they are making their selection?) When the food arrived, it was cold. If this weren't bad enough, the one portion of food intended for a child, we were informed, was not coming for another 5 minutes (which transpired to be 10). I'm sure the food would have been lovely (had it been warm), but given the cost and then the additional delay in actually being able to eat, it was a thorough disappointment.
Being a match day, we were questioned on arrival by the "security" whether we were allowed entry. This I had expected so was not offended by it. The issue I had was that, during our time there, over 16 individuals, all clearly away fans (to the extent that they were wearing away fan clothing) entered without question. Again, I have no issue with these individual customers; they were pleasant, and we had a nice conversation with one of the number. I asked the "security" when leaving what it was they were checking and was informed it was to only admit "home fans" entrance. When I questioned the admittance of 16 "away fans," I was told, and I quote, "Well..... they're in here now, aren't they?"
As I said, I had no issue being questioned on arrival, but if the point is to ensure only "home fans" are in the pub, clearly the "security" isn't working; something we discovered that seems doable and managed very well up the road at The Pembroke.
I'm saddened by this experience. We specifically booked a table here, having had previous positive meals and times at this pub; it's safe to say we won't be returning...
Read moreHORRIBLE. I give the pub one star because I don't have the option to give them none. I went to the pub at 21:40 more or less (without knowing it closes at 23:00), my friend and I were having some drinks for more than a hour and we he only had half of his pint to finish it already was 23:00. The turned on the lights and tell everyone that they were going to close, that's okay, my friend was finishing his drink and we had the intention to leave as soon as he finished bc we didn't want to bother the staff but one of the workers came again and demanded us to leave, he was so rude and we told him that we were finishing the drink and will leave, we have paid for that drink you can't ask to leave without finishing it, that's not fair. Well apparently he didn't understand that and keep talking to us in a bad way so we told him that we wasn't treating us well and that he could ask us to leave more kindly not demanding and quite aggressive. Then we finally approximate to the door and he keep on saying us things like he was tired and wants to leave home, that he is older than us.. All of that with inappropriate manners, so I told him "I am not upset that you're closing, I understand that and we are leaving but you could have asked for it in a more kindly way, what bothers me are the manners" and suddenly he got very very close to me speaking in kind of an aggressive way and high volume, and he touched ME. I quickly went outside very nervous. He didn't have the right to touch me, and it is worse if you are having an argument, it really scared me and I felt so bad and uncomfortable. He doesn't have education at all, such a bad night. I don't recommend this place,...
