Tucked away in a courtyard off Hogarth Road is this phenomenal restaurant. The interior is very tastefully decorated (check out the sumptuous taps and sink in the loo!) there are also a couple of tables in the sheltered courtyard, where we chose to sit and which was perfect on a warm afternoon.
The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, happy to chat through the menu, the history of the restaurant, Thailand or anything else! There’s also a QR code on the menu linking to a website with photos of the dishes; helpful as the restaurant has dug deep into Thai cuisine and many dishes were unfamiliar, since usually, there are limited options when visiting a non vegan Thai.
With such an array of dishes, choosing what to have is an issue. However, the food is so good, I found myself planning what I’d have on my next visit while still eating.
To start I had the Tum Tom Yum, roasted peanuts and enoki mushrooms. The herb mixture was a kaleidoscope of fresh flavours that complimented the crunch of the nuts and mushrooms. The Gui Chai Krob, is a crispy chive cake full of rich flavour and accompanied by a deep umami filled dipping sauce. I also tried my dining companions satay. The sauce was rich, nutty and complex with hints of sweet and sour, extremely good.
For main I had the Guay Tiew Tom Yum, a noodle dish with three different soy/tofu textures, crispy shards, minced and cubed tofu. This along with an assortment of veg is presented in a soup that is mildly spiced, aromatic and has sweet and sour notes. Every mouthful takes your taste buds on a rollercoaster ride that you never want to stop.
I also sampled my companions Pla Tip Pad Prik, Vegan ‘cod’ with morning glory. Superb crispy texture and deep salty flavour. My daughter’s Pad Thai was similarly delicious though a tad sweet for a whole dish for me.
The Jasmin tea was a lovely pallet cleanser and my daughter’s butterfly pea flower drink not only wowed in its changing colour but was a sweet refreshing drink on a warm day.
This is a must visit restaurant and with the number of dishes on offer, is sure to need multiple visits to sample the many carefully thought out and prepared...
Read moreWow, you could almost walk past this little gem as it's so well tucked away, but you really should make the effort to go check it out.
Firstly I'm not a Vegan, we had some Asian food earlier in the day in Chinatown which was downright awful, so our itch hadn't been scratched, and we had walked past this place nearby to our hotel. Cut to later in the evening, roughly 9.30 pm on a sunday night.... we approached and were immediately greeted with a smile and brought inside, the lady told us the kitchen would be closing in 30 minutes, but if we were ready to order and it gave us enough time to eat then we were most welcome, it was like night and day with our earlier customer service! We decided on what we wanted and that we would have enough time to sit and enjoy a (late) meal, and this turned out to be the best decision of the day. The menu was wonderful, as was the accompanying mango iced tea!!! We opted for the Popcorn Chicken, Tom Yum Soup, Tofu & Green Apple Salad to share, each and every dish was a joy to look at, wonderful fresh ingredients, all obviously prepared with love, professionalism and pride. Every mouthfull was an explosion of fresh clean tastes, you could taste every ingredient, and the balance of flavours was perfect, we were reaching the point of the kitchen closing, when we noticed mango sticky rice on the menu, we asked if it would be possible to get some, and with a smile we were told it wouldn't be a problem....... and what a delicious end to our meal it was! Everything about this place shows how much they care about the produce, the ingredients, the presentation, the customer service, I could happily give up meat and dairy if every meal was as perfectly prepared as this! If you ever find yourself looking for tasty Thai food, regardless of your dietary persuasions, you would be very hard pressed to find anywhere better in our capital than Mali. Absolutely...
Read moreA cosy Vegan restaurant that's tucked away from the otherwise bustling area around the Earl's Court Underground station. We dropped in for our anniversary dinner date and I'd requested the restaurant to give us a good table. The restaurant's ambience is lovely but the tables are quite closely spaced and unless you're in a corner, it doesn't feel like you've got your private space. We were initially seated in the middle, but on our request, the restaurant accommodated us at a better table. I had a sweet but flavourful Butterfly Pea Flower Iced Tea to sip on while we dined.
We started off with their Satay Hed & Tao Hoo, which was a mix of Shitake mushrooms and Tofu, both skewered and marinated in Satay sauce. This was very sleekly presented and served a great appetizer to our main course comprising the Khao-suey and the Massaman curry.
The Khao-suey is a Northern Thai delicacy. The broth was very rich and tasty, but scanty. However, the team readily provided us with an extra cup of it on request. The Massaman curry was made with chickpeas and tasted delightfully creamy. It was just about sufficient for 2 portions of Jasmine rice.
As Vegetarians who turned vegan, we wished there were more dishes on the menu that were veggie-based and not 'mockmeat'-based. For those that are mock-meat based, the restaurant could offer a tofu option instead. That said, we enjoyed the food thoroughly, and would love to come back...
