A Deeply Disappointing and Disrespectful Experience
I had what can only be described as one of the most infuriating experiences ever in my life at this venue, and I feel compelled to share it.
While riding home from Bayswater, where I had purchased 2 bottles of beer for my ride home. I made a brief stop at this pub, seeing it was still open. I entered and asked a male server what time they closed — he told me midnight — I let him know I might mark the spot for a return. My pre-purchased bottle that I had 2 sips out off I apologised to him and then capped.
I went outside and then proceeded to speak to patrons a male/ female couple. From Poland about the Tennis
While chatting casually with them, my e-bike alarm went off — set off by a (female- Asian) member of staff. We all laughed it off as I explained why I have an alarm on my e-bike…….However, what followed was absurd: the same staff member removed both my half pint and my capped, personal bottle without permission or acknowledgment. When I approached the staff to clarify and recover my items, things rapidly descended into chaos.
Eventually, a manager was called. I was refunded only for the £4 half pint — but received no resolution or acknowledgment for the disappearance of my personal drink. The attitude of the female manager was dismissive, bordering on hostile — shockingly unprofessional and utterly lacking in basic hospitality.
I remain out of pocket for a bottle that was neither offered back because they don’t sell bottles nor compensated for — despite me acting respectfully and exasperated trying to explain the situation the manager remained unprofessional and dismissive.
I am sure there is CCTV footage which, I am confident, would show the truth of what transpired but then that is really up to the owner of the establishment to review and realise ‘TRUTH’.
This was supposed to be a simple, peaceful pit stop on my way home from Portobello. Instead, it became a frustrating episode that left me shocked at how poorly a customer could be treated — especially when in the right.
I would strongly caution others against expecting professionalism or respect from this establishment.
I’m appalled especially when I did nothing wrong and left out of pocket and embarrassed because of...
Read moreWe had the pleasure of enjoying the roast beef Sunday lunch at The Mall Tavern in Notting Hill, and it was truly one of the finest meals I’ve had in a very long time. From the moment we arrived, the experience exceeded expectations. We were warmly greeted and promptly seated by the host—who, I believe, is also the owner—with genuine hospitality and a welcoming manner that immediately set a positive tone for the afternoon.
The atmosphere at The Mall Tavern is nothing short of outstanding. It strikes a perfect balance between the cozy charm of a traditional English pub and the elevated ambience of a modern gastro venue. The decor is tasteful, the lighting warm and inviting, and the overall energy vibrant but relaxed—ideal for a leisurely Sunday gathering.
Now, to the highlight: the roast beef. Perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavour, it was accompanied by all the classic trimmings, each prepared with care. The Yorkshire pudding was golden and crisp, the roast potatoes were beautifully done—crispy on the outside and soft within—and the vegetables were fresh and seasoned just right. The rich, savoury gravy tied everything together in what can only be described as a truly exceptional Sunday roast.
While the service was friendly throughout, there was a brief period where things slowed down slightly due to a shift change between wait staff. That said, the staff remained courteous and attentive, and it didn’t detract significantly from the overall experience.
It’s easy to see why The Mall Tavern is considered one of the top destinations for Sunday lunch in London. The combination of quality cuisine, inviting atmosphere, and genuine hospitality makes this a standout location. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone seeking a quintessentially British Sunday roast done...

Notting Hill Gate tube is a two minute stroll away. . This pub is one of the most imposing pub buildings I’ve come across on my travels. This is due to the tight corner it sits on and the almost sinister grey and dark green paint used to dress this boozer. Around the ground floor are beautiful glazed green Victorian tiles. . Inside the decor is light and airy and the bar is bathed in light from the tall windows. Around the perimeter of the bar are comfy banquettes and heavy circular round tables, the walls have some huge mirrors including an original Charrington’s branded one. The servery is a good size and it was nice to see the coat hooks and stools for a change. . The Tap List here is mightily impressive with 20 beers from London and abroad to choose from. There are cask options plus a multitude of bottles too. One of my favourite beers in Paulaner which made choosing a beer very easy. My pint was great but at the top of the pay scale. The food here is hugely popular and reasonably priced, Fish & Chips is unbelievably cheap at £10. . I visited on a Saturday lunchtime and the pub was calm for a while, a large family group arrived and the atmosphere went up a notch. The service here was on point, the fella who served me was polite and personable with other punters and their requests. . The @malltavern is definitely one for the beer lovers, the diverse choice was first class. The food is well celebrated and reasonably priced. This is an enjoyable pub to spend time in whatever the occasion. . ℹ️ Info correct on...
