At The Shed in Notting Hill, London, the shabby-chic interior and sustainable farm-to-fork menu transport diners to the countryside, while the skilled execution of dishes sets this restaurant apart from others in the area.

With its focus on locally-sourced, high-quality British cuisine, The Shed has earned its place among the top establishments in the region. The well-curated wine list featuring English, French, and Italian wines further adds to the dining experience, and the range of craft cocktails and spirits complements the restaurant's rustic atmosphere.

At The Shed in Notting Hill, London, the attention to detail in every dish was remarkable. One starter, aptly titled "Snacks," stands out as a shining example of this attention to detail. The Mushroom Marmite Eclair is a complex mix of savory pastry cream and perfectly executed eclair dough that dances all over the palate like a ballet. The savory flavors are complemented by the light and fluffy pastry, creating a dish that is both playful and sophisticated. The dish is a perfect embodiment of The Shed's commitment to inventive and unexpected combinations of flavors and ingredients.

Another standout dish, titled "Land," is a local Sussex Chorizo with hung yogurt and crisp-bread with toasted almonds. The balance of textures and flavors in this dish is truly exceptional, with each element perfectly complementing the others. The richness of the chorizo is balanced by the tanginess of the yogurt, and the crunch of the crisp-bread and almonds adds a delightful textural element to the dish. The use of local ingredients in this dish is a testament to The Shed's commitment to sustainability and farm-to-fork dining, and the result is a dish that is both delicious and environmentally conscious.

The other course to the tasting menu at The Shed are equally impressive, with dishes such as Nori crisp-bread with heritage carrot puree, or the South Downs Venison with parsnip puree topped with a redcurrant jus, showcasing the restaurant's commitment to high-quality ingredients and precise attention to detail. From the Snack to the sea to the land and farm, every dish at The Shed is an adventure in inventive and unexpected flavors, textures, and combinations. The restaurant's skilled execution of each dish, combined with its commitment to sustainability and farm-to-fork dining, make it a must-visit destination for foodies in Notting Hill and beyond.

I mustn't forget the staff. In addition to the impressive cuisine, The Shed in Notting Hill boasts a knowledgeable and attentive staff who provide excellent service throughout the meal. The waitstaff are well-versed in the menu, and are able to provide detailed descriptions of each dish, as well as make informed recommendations to diners.

The service at The Shed strikes the perfect balance between attentiveness and patience, with servers ensuring that guests' needs are met without being overbearing or interrupting the flow of the meal. The staff's friendly and welcoming demeanor contributes to the overall ambiance of the restaurant, making diners feel at ease and able to enjoy the meal at their own pace.

One must look past its rustic charm and see, The Shed as a serious restaurant that takes its cuisine, and ingredients seriously, and the result is an exceptional dining experience. While there may be a few dishes that fall short of the extremely high standards set by the restaurant, it is clear that The Shed's attention to detail and commitment to quality make it a destination for diners seeking a true taste of the English countryside in the heart of Notting Hill and Kensington Neighborhoods

I feel three stars is maybe a bit harsh but unfortunately had quite a few issues when eating here.

The positives, the concept of the restaurant is great with farm to table and a big approach to sustainable. My main and dessert were also really nice, and whilst I never ordered the tasting menu looks good value and would be a good purchase. The restaurant itself was nice too and a nice atmosphere although was very warm inside although this was in the midst of a heat wave I visited.

Unfortunately, there were a few issues during my evening here. Firstly the wine we purchased was ok, but upon looking at the purchase price the mark up price on this was way beyond what you would expect which was a shame to see. The scallops (pictured) were nice but never in my life had I seen scallops of this size and for the price it felt a bit short of expected. Also when I made the reservation there was no mention of being expected to return the table by a certain time, but towards the end of the meal we were asked to sit outside if we wanted to finish our drinks as there were people waiting to be served. Thankfully it was quite nice outside (and there were heaters to keep us warm) but felt like we were being forced out of the restaurant when we still had wine to finish and any further drinks we wished.

I would come back and hopefully have a better experience next time as I wanted to enjoy my evening more than I did for the reasons above, hopefully will have a better...

Dec 2024.

It was a rainy night in London and we were looking for a pub to get a bite and come in from the rain. We spied this charming a little space and decided to pop in. Well, I'm so happy we did. The pubs we passed by were too loud and crowded and we wanted some place we could have a conversation and some good food without being jostled all around by everybody cramming together. The restaurant was decently busy, even though it was early in the evening, but I like an early dinner, and they quickly accommodated our party of two, letting us know that we were lucky we came early because typically they have reservations that fill the place. After eating their exquisite food I can see why. England gets a bad rap for not having what people would consider fine cuisine. If you want to put that myth to rest you need to come here immediately. We ordered many different items from the menu and every single one was better than expected. We loved that it was all locally sourced food and the chef has an amazing skill in showing off the bounty of the UK countryside. One dish after another had our tastebuds delighted and anticipating the next tasty treat to come out of the kitchen. The service was impeccable. Anne gets credit for that last star to make it a full five star dining experience. Anne was attentive and knowledgeable about the food and we enjoyed every interaction with her.

You really must come here when you're in London. You absolutely will...
