I visited Mughals Indian Restaurant in Fitzrovia yesterday evening with three friends, having booked in advance, and from start to finish the entire experience was faultless. This is a restaurant that strikes a perfect balance between authenticity, service, and atmosphere, it truly deserves every bit of praise it gets.
The ambience inside Mughals is warm and inviting. The venue itself is intimate without feeling cramped, small enough that the staff are always nearby and attentive, yet never intrusive. There’s a calm, confident energy about the place; the gentle background music and low chatter make it feel refined but still relaxed. It’s the kind of restaurant that instantly puts you at ease, whether you’re there for a quiet meal or a lively dinner with friends.
We started with a selection of starters: Samosa, Chicken Tikka, Seekh Kebab, Chilli Paneer & Onion Bhaji, Each served with its own complementary dip. Every single dish had its own distinctive flavour, and it was clear that care and attention had gone into the preparation. The Chilli Paneer was the standout for me, offering the perfect balance of spice and sweetness, while the Seekh Kebab was juicy, perfectly cooked, and bursting with aromatic seasoning. The Onion Bhaji was crisp and light, not greasy as is often the case elsewhere.
For our main courses, we ordered a variety of curries such as Lamb Bhuna, Butter Chicken, Chicken Chilli Masala & Chicken Malaya. Each dish was exceptionally rich, flavourful, and cooked to perfection. The Lamb Bhuna was tender and slow-cooked in a thick, beautifully spiced sauce; the Butter Chicken had that perfect creaminess without being heavy; and the Chilli Masala brought just the right amount of heat. It was one of those rare occasions where everyone at the table agreed there wasn’t a single weak dish.
To drink, we ordered various drinks including Mango and Salted Lassi's, and a Masala Chai. The Mango Lassi was thick, creamy, and refreshingly sweet, while the Salted version offered a lovely contrast and paired surprisingly well with the spice of the mains. The Masala Chai also got a good review from my friend.
The service was truly outstanding. Every member of staff we interacted with was friendly, professional, and proactive. They gave thoughtful recommendations, ensured our glasses and plates were never left empty for long, and maintained a level of attentiveness that few restaurants manage to achieve. You could tell they genuinely cared about ensuring we had the best possible experience.
We booked through the FirstTable 50% off food deal, and even with a generous spread of starters, mains, and drinks, our total came to just £17 per person, a truly unbelievable price, especially for such high-quality food in the heart of Fitzrovia. This would have been a great deal anywhere, but I'm not sure I've had value for money in Fitzrovia that comes close to this!
Overall, Mughals Fitzrovia is a gem. Exceptional food, impeccable service, and a lovely, intimate setting that makes you feel looked after from the moment you walk in. It’s rare to find a restaurant that nails every element so consistently. I would recommend it wholeheartedly and will absolutely be...

Read moreMy wife and I liked the look of the warm atmosphere and took a chance, very happy we did! The staff were great, helpful and fast, the food was very good, having had a lot of food from the region, in some restaurants you can’t tell a major difference between dishes, but we were pleasantly surprised to find the dishes were individual and great. The Lamb Tikka Massala was exactly that, and they are not using excessive ghee, in fact very little from what I can see, so the dishes are very tasty but not oily. The pilaf rice had cloves and cardamom pods and again, tasted great. Lastly, of course the price, which is very reasonable. We had poppadoms, two mains with 1 rice and 1 naan, a drink each and the total was £50. You’ll struggle to find better value in London, we will...
