Haven't been around this part of London for a while and wanted a swift with a mate to have a chat. Remembered The Old Red Lion and the landlady was still there (always the sign of a good pub) delivering a cracking pint of Timothy Taylor Landlord on hand pump. A bit of banter and reference to the You Tube "Tweedys Pubs" where he talks about the pub, history and even the geology of the stone cladding. A proper pub that has managed to retain a great feeling and loyal customer base. Long may it continue, so visit and enjoy.

I liked this Greene King pub. Even at 4pm on a weekday afternoon it was quite lively. They only had 2 cask ales and 3 craft ales. It is a narrow pub, apparently dating back to 1600 for the original building. They had an excellent whisky collection of around 35 different ones. I opted for a double Woodford Reserve, not cheap at £13.90. The service was excellent. It is in a good location, Holborn station is under a 5 minute walk away.

A first visit to to this wonderful establishment, although I have passed on many an occasion, usually Sunday when it is closed... Such is life!. Delightful London Street corner pub with a vast array of beers ( both cask and keg) wines and spirits. Lovely welcoming staff to go with a good pint, what more could you ask? I enjoyed my pint here and will enjoy another soon. I recommend you do the same.

The three stars relate to the woeful lack of attention made to the historical significance of this pub. 1649, 51 signatures on the warrent that sealed the fate of King Charles I were later held into account during the Restoration of 1660. Only 11 Regicides were still alive, now liable to be hung, drawn and quartered as was the penalty for treason. The deceased Ireton, Cromwell and Bradshaw were exhumed and were given this same treatment. This pub was where the three dead bodies were given 'a rest' such was the mentality of those around at this time. There is nothing but the slender reference to this on the plaque outside. Three Regicides of note lay here and in an upstairs room. Not basement. This pub need go visit The Viaduct Tavern in Holborn for lessons as to how to treat the link between pub and history. The pub was empty during a hot summer crammed with tourists eager for authentic experience. Please. No manager to...

The beer was musty and fairly unpleasant. We asked for a replacement and were told we were wrong and the beer fine. It was a new barrel. We were not offered an alternative or a refund. We paid for the other beer on offer, Timothy Taylor Landlord but were still made to feel unwelcome and troublemakers. The pub owner was no more pleasant having taken payment for 6 pints, even though the first three were, our view, undrinkable. Having been a customer in this pub for over 35 years, I'm sad to have been...
