Sad and sorry to have to leave a negative review. But ...

Birthday meal for seven family members last night. The service was appalling. Courses should be served at the same time. Four of our group had finished their starter, waiting for their places to be cleared and mains before three of us had even had our starters served. At a generous estimate there was a gap of around twenty minutes between the two.

We were waiting so long for service that I cleared the table myself - moving oyster stands and dishes, plates, empty glasses.

The food was bland, lukewarm and very poor value for money. I chose a crab burger and was served it on a plate, alone. One burger on a white plate looks really rubbish. It was lukewarm and the best part of twenty quid. A request for an adjustment (no coriander) wasn't met.

Previous visits, and seeing the staff at work again last night, show that they actually don't know how to serve some drinks. This is not their fault at all and I felt for them all - how busy they seemed and how they just weren't doing the kind of job people typically expect. This is down to management and training and I hope they will be better supported in the future. I saw one waiter trying to make what looked like a lager shandy. He went through three or four glasses, decanting each effort into another as each attempt produced more and more bubbles and froth. His exasperation was clear to see. On other occasions, drinks have been served with the wrong mixer or not prepared properly.

I really don't like leaving bad reviews at all. But for a special occasion, the expense and quality of the food and, most significantly, the service and the impact that has on simply being able to enjoy a meal, this has to be said. Food should be an exciting, surprise interruption to a happy, chatty, family gathering. It shouldn't be that the topic of conversation is about where the food is, how long it's taking and presents not being able to be opened because the table is full of empty glasses, plates and ice trays.

I hope his helps the management to improve its service and serve its staff with better support and training. I also hope to return to find things improved because - as a local family, it's a place we very much like to visit due to its location, good music and views. Today though, I'd chose to go somewhere...

I really enjoyed my experience at 'THE OYSTERCATCHER restaurant in Greenwich. This restaurant another favourite of mine, especially in Greenwich. The Oystercatcher offers a very spacious inner ( two floors - ground, and upstairs 1st floor for fine excellent cuisine with a vista view over the river); and also outer quayside dining area plus views of the river. At this point of the river you sometimes have that very special vessel moored alongside the quay. Excellent spot to eat outside with views west towards the City, particular for evening sunset photographic views. North towards the towering buildings of Canary Wharf - and East downstream towards Greenwich ( Cutty Sark and the 02 Millenium dome. The food hearty and enjoyable, good for a quick snack break too if on a walk along the Thames path walkway...a good stopover! Excellent fine cuisine..with a price I must say with some dishes served upstairs on the first floor. A cosy excellent dining area for that special occasion and views to delight. Indeed, I loved the spacious area of the whole restaurant, plenty of comfortable seating and tables both indoor and outdoor. Modern throughout. The toilets very clean, attractive decor all round with beautiful pictures on the wall of the Oystercatcher seashore wading bird, to whom the restaurant owes its name. The staff some of the most friendly and welcoming I've ever met at any restaurant.....only to happy to please - very young and efficient. Importantly, their is definately a disabled entrance and good toilets on ground and first floor via a lift. Maybe not exactly the cheapest, but a great pleasant atmosphere and a good selection of finely tuned music adds to the experience. I would say an excellent restaurant too for young courting couples, ideal for a date. But this fine landmark venue caters for all...whatever your age! Pleasant here summer time. Parking restricted around neighbouring residential back streets, but well linked here with bus routes and Greenwich Station DLR. Thank you Olly for taking care of us and all your fellow colleagues, you made my wife, youngest Goddaughter , myself so very welcome. Yes, we will return...maybe for that special occasion! I rate as one of the best restaurants in Greenwich where there is so much competition here ....thumbs up. 👍A1, 10/10. All the...

Email sent to restaurant on Sunday (27th Oct 2019) Suspected Food Poisoning

We booked a table yesterday (26th Oct) for 19:15, under my partners name. My partner ordered the oysters and a seabream. I had the half chicken.

We've never been to your restaurant previously, and were drawn to the lovely view from the restaurant. I had no issues with my food (the half chicken). The caesar salad on the side, I sent back due to my lack of attention as I can't have cheese, and was promptly replaced with no questions asked.

For my partners food, it upset his stomach and by the time we were leaving the restaurant, he was feeling unwell and needed to use the bathroom more than twice. He mentioned some of the seabream was potentially undercooked in places. He probably shouldn't have eaten it (too late for that!). One would presume the chef would have not served food that may be undercooked/unevenly cooked. While it may not have been the food consumed, it's highly likely in this case as the items he consumed at home during the day are in the processed food category.

I notice your restaurant doesn't have a food hygiene rating, and is awaiting inspection. Having looked more thoroughly through the reviews on Google, it seems basic standards among staff are not in place.

A disasterous end to what could have been a lovely meal - I'd ask you to kindly re-imburse us for this, as the food was not prepared with reasonable skill or care. END

Wouldn't recommend for food! The Oystercatcher have not responded to my email. We didn't report this to management before leaving the restaurant, as my partner was embarrassed and wanted to leave. Seems like a nice location for a regular drink...

01/07/23 Saturday PLEASE send a hygiene and food inspector to this place! These people will poison you or worse! I will omit the fact that the service is nothing short of embarrassing in this place, compared to which any provincial weatherspoon would be envious! We saw a big man with a beard and glasses (probably the manager, or maybe the chef) walk back into the restaurant and go straight into the kitchen with a Waitrose bag (literally 30 seconds walking from the restaurant) piled high with Hovis burger buns! Now I wonder, did they ever run out of buns and therefore give customers another commercial product? You can very well see the ingredients online of this product which also contains a very important allergen such as SOY !! What happens if someone is allergic but in the middle of serving you give them something bought outside the restaurant environment such as a commercial product that is not made from a central kitchen just to save your sales?! And would I have to pay £15/17 for a burger of yours with a bun from Waitrose that costs £1.70? Shocking (I attach photos of the product in question as we went to check ourselves immediately after the incident!) You are a disgrace to the entire industry! No customer should be fooled like this! Absolutely a disgrace, really hope you will just shut soon and I really hope for a food inspectors visit soon!!!!!!!

Update 24/7 1pm and only one member of staff serving, he had to keep leaving the bar to take food out and then after we'd been waiting 10 mins to get served decided that answering the phone was more important than serving us. This place started off with poor service and sadly has just gone downhill. Avoid and go next door to the sail loft Original review: This is a new bar and restaurant on the waterfront in Greenwich. Have been a couple of times in the last few weeks, whilst the atmosphere is good and has great views of the river, there's not much else it has going for it. Service going by the reviews is poor, whilst we didn't have really bad service, each time we've been served it been cold and generic. Not had the food yet, but watching the kitchen work I don't think I'll bother. Food often sits waiting to be taken out for ages, worse was the server who was taking out some fries, when a few of them fell from the pot they were in onto the ketchup on the plate, he put the plate down then proceeded to eat them, before taking the rest out to the customer! If this place wants to be a success, and there's no reason it shouldn't be, then a complete review of their staff and customer service training needs to happen
