I've driven past this comedy establishment for a good 2 years and never found the time to actually pay it a visit. Luckily, I have amazing friends who know me so well!
Booked and paid for entry online to see up and coming comedians. (If it's your birthday month, you get 1 free entry. That's probably why my friends booked it, lol.) When you arrive, you will be greeted by some lovely hench men/ security/ Men In Black, with a clip board, as you have to be on the list to get it. Fancy! So, being a bunch of VIPs, we entered and had a paper bracelet put on our wrists and went to find our seats.
The comedy act itself was pretty good for up and coming with a live audience to interact with. (Most of whom were 50+) I was pleased with what I saw and would be happy to pay to go again. Prices can be found online.
When the act is finished, all the chairs are cleared from the middle of the floor, and a dj comes on to start the dancing for the night. Classic bangers and old school clubbing music. Again, I also enjoyed this part of the night too.
The prices were okay. I got a small glass of coke and a pint of coke for under £5 and my friends who were drinking got a double and mixer for about £10. I don't think that's too bad considering I flatiron rates etc.
The staff were lovely, and everyone I spoke to was nice, friendly and polite or funny and sarcastic, hahaha. There is a great atmosphere to this comedy club for any age group, 18 and above.
They also sell food. Can't remember what it was called, chicken slov-something, maybe? Greek food. Anyway, it was the best thing I've ever had. It's was fresh, full of flavour and crunchy salad in a soft but firm flat bread with greek style fries loaded in it as well. I'd go back just for one of them. It was defo the size of an average 8-10yr olds head, so it's quite big for a wrap and under £15...bargain! They have a beef or veggie option in a wrap style or bowl. Great value for money.
There is a seated and sheltered smoking area out front with plenty of cigarette bins around. Drinks are allowed outside while the comedy acts are on, but when the comedy is over and the dj comes on, no drinks are allowed outside.
Toilets, speaking for the women, were well stocked and clean with plenty of space.
All in all, it's a good night out with friends, for a laugh, or a cute date night, older gents stag do, whatever tickles your fancy. I would definitely recommend and would happily go again.
P.S. If you've never been to a live comedy act before, you should know that talking to each other during the show will get you shushed by the security men aggressively as its the rudest thing you could do. It's taken very seriously, so remember to keep it quiet while the acts are on. I didn't realise that one of my friends didn't know this before...
Read moreWe went for a mates birthday- I'd been years ago but the place looked completely different We were greeted with a warning (as we were a group) not to talk during the show .. unfortunately others can't have been given that warning cos behind us and to the side of us (not the hen party) they were talking so loudly that we complained.. security had a word but didn't make much difference. Both acts and compere were a little better than I feared having looked them up before. The seats were a little narrow but in our section we had enough space I'd thought we'd be dancing til the early hours with a fun ending to the night but even the hen party left, there was only us and the loud couple left in the room! I asked for the dj to play a tune to try getting the boys dancing too.. Part of reason I scored it low- the security guy by the dj was also a bit of a @£&k too, hadn't played it by the time I left but was more how he was when I asked I'd drunk a few pints so had asked for some water, the first time they were nice and provided it with no issue after a while (and probably at least one more pint)I went back up for another, girl behind bar acknowledged it and then ignored me and served someone else. She'd been OK earlier and all the other bar staff had been great but I don't know if they wanted to close up or just wanted ££ but I was not impressed. Just to top it off when I was trying to leave I couldn't get the door to open, the security guard sneered at me and laughed as he just showed me where I was pushing it wrong!
It may just be because they were trying to close/ get rid of us, they may just be rude but it also crossed my mind that they were treating me like that because they thought I was gay.. can't 100% definitely say so however I felt like I was being picked out for this treatment and left very annoyed and not wanting to return, equally adamant to review so when Google suggested I review I was only too pleased! I didn't make a fuss as didn't want to spoil everyone's evening but I really wanted to say something Another friend wants to Reginald d hunter next month and I'm inclined to suggest we see him at ANY other...

Formerly the domain of comedy legend Malcolm Hardee who died a comedians death in 2005 when the money he'd won out of a fruit machine put so much weight in his pockets it caused him to drown when he fell in the river whilst trying to board his house boat.
The anarchic spirit of Malcolm is still here, indeed his face is painted on the wall behind the traditional cloth backdrop at the back of the stage.
Thursday night is kind of an open mic night but one where the quality of acts is usually pretty high, the cream of the open mic circuit, often treated as heats of a new act competition, at £4 entry its a cheap night out, food and drink at average pub prices, my only gripe here is the plastic glassware they use, it makes the beer taste weird and makes you feel as if you're in a powder-keg back street boozer where it could all kick off at any minute, you're not of course BUT the place did have a crazy reputation back in the old days which still make it a feared venue for those who listen to hearsay
Friday nights you see good newcomers and a well known headliner for £10
Saturday is the main night for big name pro comics, yes the chairs are removed after the show where you disco into the early hours for no extra money, naff? sometimes but who cares, it's a bargain night out
Sunday is a bargain £5 and often the busiest night of the week, always a couple of quality acts and promising...
