🚇 Cambridge Heath 🍺 £5.00 Brixton Lager
The Perseverance is located next to Cat & Mutton Bridge by Regents Canal on the border between Cambridge Heath and Broadway Market in East London. The nearest station is Cambridge Heath overground.
This pub was originally built in 1869, it was rebuilt in the 1937 along with Ada House which adjoins the pub. This pub has been painted all manner of colours over the years, I was glad to see the pub stripped back exposing the original green glazed tiles.
This is a spacious one bar pub with a large Island servery. The decor is traditional, simple and functional. There is plenty seating throughout with long banquettes under the windows and conventional tables and chairs in front. Around the walls are a few TV’s for watching live sport, a couple of fruity’s and some witty framed prints. At the front of the pub are plenty of benches and a beer garden at the rear.
The beer line up is a selection of familiar brands with no cask ale. I decided on a Brixton Lager, my pint hit the spot, price point was reasonable at only a fiver. There is no food served here, but with @broadwaymarket on your doorstep, you are spoiled for choice if you’re hungry.
I arrived at 4pm on a sweltering Saturday afternoon in June. The pub was packed outside with younger punters lapping up the summer sun. Inside was a calmer affair, it was chilled and relaxed with a group of oldschool locals in the corner. I pulled up a pew inside to enjoy my pint and chilled listening to the downtempo dnb soundtrack. The service was excellent, the team member who served me was chatty and friendly. Just a side note, whilst enjoying my pint, a queue formed at the bar, even though there is a long bar to stand at. Pubs are not designed to queue, thats why they have long counters, good bar staff know who’s next to be served.
Great to see this backstreet pub thriving and doing well. I loved the architecture of this interwar built pub and that the beer prices have remained sensible. I would definitely recommend a visit here, I would suggest a visit on a non market day for a real local pub experience.

Read moreIt's taken me some time to post this because it was such an unpleasant experience. Walked in the pub at around 3 on a lovely day, a group of friends and our young daughter asleep in her pram. Someone immediately came out from behind the bar, and in a very hostile way, said 'no children, read the sign'. I apologised and we left, but I must admit it left me feeling like it was a little unnecessary to be quite as unpleasant. I admit I had not seen the sign, and it did indeed say 'no children allowed', so he was right, but I would still have apologised and left if it had been said in a nicer way. I had to pretend to my friends that I had thought of somewhere better to avoid them thinking there were such unpleasant places in an otherwise warm and friendly...
Read moreFantastic, a throwback and what you want if you intend to go to a PUB.
Looks it's not fancy, you won't find £15 burgers and £7 pints. But what you will find is well priced drinks, friendly and efficient staff with lots of regular characters.
As mentioned it is fantastic for sport and that why I often frequent here.
Love the fact they charge the same for a pint as they do for a half. Love the big middle finger up to the people who come in and should really be paying rent to sit there that long!
Look, this is a pub, as traditional as it gets (not oldy worldly country pub traditional - east London pub) it is there to drink, socialise and watch sport.
A complete BREATH OF FRESH AIR in this city. Here's to...
