The only thing this place has nailed is a false sense of comfort and authenticity from the street, the rest leaves a lot to be desired.
On many an occasion had I cycled past and seen young couples at the window tentatively slurping on bowls of ramen showing no real signs of concern. But on stepping through the door, the real truth of the matter was soon exposed. The menu was extensive and definitely too ambitious to deliver unflawed leading to over-fried tempura and cold slabs of tofu. The toilets were grotty and didn't leave much optimism for the hygiene standards of the kitchen...
All of these factors would have probably led to me delivering a reluctant rating of three but the staff and their complete negligence to customer care jeopardized the situation further. At all stages of the meal it was down to the customer to instigate service as the staff squabbled with Uber drivers and seeming faffed about at the bar. Furthermore our party we told several items were unavailable from the menu only to see them bring delivered to other tables later on in our visit. It was frantic and unsettling and ultimately robbed the place of another star. I...
Read moreI ordered a takeaway Ramen from Okko and there was obviously a mix up. My Ramen was oily to the point of it being unpalatable. There were no greens or any veg for that matter. I had been served pork instead of the chicken I ordered and even that was such a measly portion it was done in two bites. Mistakes happen. I can accept that. However, when you fail to properly address those mistakes then I cannot and will not accept that. Okko's customer service is among the worst I've come across. My initial complaint to them via Facebook Messenger was met with concern... and then swiftly ignored. And then continually ignored. It's been well over a week and I'm still being ignored, despite my best efforts to get any kind of resolution out of this. I would love to say that Okko has amazing food. I'd love to say that they really love their customers. I'd love to say that when you're in the London Fields area you should go and visit Okko, but I can't. I had a bad meal and given the opportunity to make amends, they chose...
Read moreWe've been local’s in the area for years now. We see so many restaurants come & go but it's nice to see this doing well, plus its nice to finally have a Japanese in Broadway Market.
We eat out so regularly and so often when we'd like to go for Japanese you get such basic, common boring food. They're usually like an independent yo sushi (without the conveyor belt!), it's refreshing to be served a slight variance on these. Its not Heston Blumenthal, snail porridge different! It's just well presented & tasty. The sashimi for example tasted really fresh and the naked gyoza are a great take on a classic idea. Even the Lychee cocktail was great, if a bit small.
Staff are pretty friendly & relaxed. It's small so we had to wait for a table but that’s just testament to how good the food is. Decor was simple, but looked a bit raw. I guess that’s in keeping with the area.
Will definitely be heading...
