Summary: Poor service, quite rude waiters, questionable food quality, and still had the audacity to insist on taking a tip.
Full story: I used to frequent this pub a lot in the 18 years I lived in the neighbourhood. Frankly I was embarrassed by the end of the night.
We were served the wrong beer and only found out when we ordered the same beer again and were presented with a different beer. The rudeness of one of the waitresses was breathtaking as she was quick in informing us they had run out of caramelised onions for the burgers and seemed to think forcing a Thai menu on us was a great idea. How can a Resturant next to several grocery stores run of of onions to serve on any of their burgers? Where is the logic in that!!!?
The last straw was when she mentioned quite loudly close to the end of our dinner how tired she was and wanted to go home. If that's not a hint at paying customers to hurry up and leave i don't know what is.
Finally it didn't occur to me until I got home that the other waitress still made sure she got a £4.00 by splitting the bill in two even though my date had paid more than half in cash!! The audacity!! To insist on a tip when service was substandard is downright rude too!
Well i will not be darkening the door of this establishmwent ever again. It seems gentrification has its downside as in the good old days i was more than proud and happy to bring anyone to this pub. Its a...

You'll want to flick through that menu at least a few times during your visit. The decor is a bit Dickensian, in as far as it can be a beautiful sunny day, yet if you find your way to the back, whereby windows are replaced with wooden paneling (I've yet to find a secret passage, as my Famous Five based upbringing would suggest), it gets so dark that you'll be grateful for that half exhausted candle on your table, Finally, I can also attest for the quality of the food. It's tasty, varied and really what you need only a lazy Sunday afternoon.
A final warning for those of you filled with the same levels of enthusiasm that I was: those fruit beers go down so quickly that very soon you'll be wondering why your legs aren#t working as efficiently as when you went in. Should you find yourself in those position, and run up against last orders feeling the need to power on through and take the evening elsewhere, the Cat and Mutton is just up the road.
Godspeed, fruity beer...
Read moreLong standing Broadway Market local. Love the interior which is a maze of warm, traditional wooden snugs. Never change them Dove peeps. The board games have been put away, presumably because of THAT virus but still a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Friends worked in the kitchen here 30 years ago and you couldn't swing a sea bass in there let alone a cat. Hopefully, they're a bit better appointed now because they're still kicking out great sharing platters, a range of curries (the Thai alternating green/red week to week) and damn good chips, something I never say lightly. The main thing they could work on are the toilets. They're unisex, yay! No queuing women and smug blokes here, but they've seen better days and opaque glass isn't the most relaxing material for a toilet door! What's more, depending which washbasin you choose you have a fifty-fifty chance of an unplanned power shower, which doesn't go with with every outfit. Anyway, the crowds, for once, attest to a great, rather than just a trendy, boozer in this uber-hip corner of...
