We were here for drinks and a bit of food last week. There was a match on so the place was quite busy. Luckily we got a table but nobody came to clear the table from the people before us/to take our order, so we went to the bar to order our food and drinks, and asked the guy to clear off the table for us - which he did, although to be honest none of the staff seemed like they wanted to be there (maybe because it was busy). The food was slow to come out but that was understandable given it was busy. The food came out and starters and mains came out together which was a bit weird but as we were hungry at that stage we didn't mind too much - the food was pretty tasty! We had a few more drinks after the food and then paid up. It was only after paying the bill that we noticed a "discretionary service charge of 10% is added for all serviced tables bills". This ended up being over £9 for just two people at the table. I don't mind leaving a small tip for the staff, however given that we ordered from the bar and the only table service we got was when the food was brought to our table, this was...
Read moreOn our last night in London I had dinner here with my wife and daughter (11). It was Saturday and it was busy with many locals. We were staying in Queensway so it was a short walk. At first the female bartender kinda shooed us when we asked about a table for dinner but then an other young women came along and got us seated. Pubs don't have hostesses so you're kinda on your own. We had a nice table in the main room with a view of the bar and telly where everybody was watching the Euro 16 soccer match. My wife and i started with a Hendrick's gin and tonic. They charge you separately for the gin (10.65 pounds) and the mixer (3.50 pounds). That was for both. My daughter had yet another late of fish and chips (12.95 pounds), probably her 6th of our trip, my wife had the steak and ale pie (12.95) and I had the beef burger with bacon (11.95). The burger was very good just not juicy the way American corn fed beef is. My wife's steak and ale pie was exceptional. We also had a couple of glasses of wine. A delicious meal and a great way to end our trip as we strolled home...
Read moreVacationing in London, this was my first destination, to watch a football match and have a couple (Imperial!) pints (not stingy 12-ouncers). Perfectly-adjusted crystal-clear telly (Americans always have 'stretched' display), very friendly staff, wonderful warm atmosphere. Most people were in small get-together groups, enjoying leisurely conversations, ignoring the football (low TV volume) perhaps eventually ordering meals. Later in week: returned for evening meal and relaxation w/ girlfriend who liked it as well as I did. The Badger brewery offerings have drawn some weak reviews on websites, but the Guinness was carefully-drawn and just fine. Nice selection of wines. Good 'pub' food.Very very pleasing place. ADD: My girlfriend and I went again, after a long day in February 2016 on a cold rainy evening, now feeling a little like it is "our" place. I made the mistake of ordering the double burger, only because it was enormous! Absolutely the best burger meat I have ever had! Still, warm atmosphere,...
