I’ve been a frequent customer of Tokyo Express for about 8 months, however I placed an order with them today (a hot day which was reportedly 31 degrees).
I ordered via Just Eat and the food was supposed to be delivered at 19:15. I called at 19:55 to check on the status of my order, the manager advised me it should be with me shortly and that it had left some 40 minutes ago. 10 minutes later the food turned up, and the hot food and cold food came out of the same food storage bag.
Upon unpacking the food I noticed the sushi was warm to the touch, and the hot food was barely warm. Not wanting to chance warm sushi on a hot day where it had been travelling in the car, I called the restaurant. As soon as I advised her that I wanted to speak to the manger, the lady who I presume to the manager advised me the manger wasn’t in but that she could help me and she didn’t know when the manger was going to be in, ever.
I advised her that the order came 55 minutes late and that the sushi was warm to the touch and I didn’t want to risk eating it especially because it was so hot today.
She didn’t want to know.
She blamed the courier, and told me that I should have used Uber instead. She then repeatedly told me the fish was good and it was fine. I informed the manager that I would have to inform Just Eat of my horrific experience. She then proceeded to tell me that she would just tell them the fish was fine when they called up to check and I was banned from ordering from the restaurant again! I advised her that that was fine, I’d rather not eat at a place that can’t take criticism from a reoccurring customer and doesn’t take food safety seriously!! Great customer...
Read moreA tad overpriced and the quality of items is more miss than hit, for the price. I've eaten at a few conveyor belt sushi places across London and the pricing is similar while the quality is quite lower. 2 items were miss, 1 hit and 1 was average. I think they would do better if they reduced their menu size and focused on the remaining items.
Cons Straight up don't bother with their Tempura, it tastes like something your mum would make after she saw an article online. I live fairly close and delivery took over an hour, The packaging was not consistent. The hot food comes in a tad soggy because of the packaging, they try to alleviate this by punching a small hole at one end of the the transparent plastic box but that does not help at all. The Nigiri is very overpriced for what you're getting. Receptionist speaks just about enough english to take your order and get it delivered to you. While well put together, the Alaska Rolls were a bit bland, I'm guessing the ingredients are not that fresh and the rolls were in fact a bit warm. The lime with the Fried chicken(Tori Kaga Age) was not fresh, hinting at this as well.
Pros I would give 2.5 stars if I could I felt the chicken selection for the Fried chicken(Tori Kara Age) was good and it was well prepared. Menu is put together well and explained and somebody new to Japanese food would have no issue picking out something they'd like. Tempura and Tori Kara Age SAUCES were nice and the packaging for the sushi was nice, plenty of...
