I got a Whiskey Tasting session for my boyfriend’s birthday as he loves whiskey, as do I. I had a voucher so had up to a year to book it and we finally went this weekend. I wanted to do it in the winter rather than the summer. Upon entering TT Liquor we were greeted with not only a friendly hello but the fabulous smell of wood and alcohol. The shop is jam packed with alcoholic delights and is very pleasing to look at. Just what you want from a whiskey tasting venue. We checked in, had a quick look round the shop then waited for our tasting. We were taken down into the basement bar and given a welcome cocktail (Whiskey Highball with peach) super super delicious. We then went into the cutest inclosed cavern like space to start the tasting. All the drinks were laid out on the table ready for us. It looked spectacular. We all shuffled in along the table to where 7 different whiskeys waited for us. Our whiskey tasting expert ZA took us on a brilliant journey through whiskey. And I may say she was excellent. Pausing to answer any questions we had throughout our tasting. She was very very informative and exceedingly funny. A great combination. She mentioned that this was only her second time conducting the whiskey tasting but you wouldn’t know. It’s like she’d been doing it for years. I would like to attend another tasting session conducted by ZA I feel like I learnt a lot and had a great time. The range of whiskeys you get to try are vast and very tasty. Definitely...
Read moreWent for the cocktail masterclass after seeing great reviews here. But then we found out why they are good. At the end they ask you to review it on Google saying that if you mention the name of the instructor, they get 5 pounds. I recognize that it's a good emotional strategy to get people to "help" instructors. The problem is that it's just not that good. For 75 pounds per person all you get is an instructor telling you what to mix. No backgrounds on the cocktails history or anything I couldn't just learn online. The instructor did not look super happy to be there, the room was super hot and the music was too loud. If you just want to have fun with drinks you can have a good time, but it's definitely no masterclass at all. Another minus is that during the break we were hungry for nibbles and went downstairs to order something. The waiter was rude saying that if we wanted to eat we had to get a table. I ended up going to a grocery store nearby to get...
Read moreWe had an outstanding meal at TT. The burnt cabbage, foccacia bread, the aubergine, and chicken thighs were our favorites. A tremendous accompanying sauce. But not all dishes were perfect, not to mention the loud noice levels of the ambiance. The oyster mushrooms were dry and the uninspired dessert of unbalanced, overtly salty and bitter pecan pie ice cream were dissapointing. The cocktails listed were also limited and unimaginative. Least of all, I was really bummed not being able to try the sticky date toffee pudding, despite having that noted on the menu sent to us during confirmation. Must've been an old menu mistakenly sent. Service was a bit tired and lack lustre, where it was tough to grab their attention to order more. Def didn't deserve the service charge. Luckily, as with most places, egalitarian patrons are too embarrassed to ask for it to be taken off. No matter, it's still a nice place to share some sharing plates...
